Are there any wide-butted guys using the Fizik Aliante? I've tried a few saddles but the only one that works for me so far is the Selle Italia Prolink, which is pretty wide. Has anyone successfully gone from a Prolink to an Aliante?

yes I have.
Aliante is still wider than other saddles like SLR or San MArco ERA

Didn't use that saddle before, but I have a big ass and love the Aliante. Of course, big ass is a relative phrase.

I have the Aliante and I'm a pretty big guy. I'm not sure if I'm super "wide" however. I'm 6'2", 265 (and dropping). I was around 285-290 when I got the saddle. I wear an XL bib. My pants are 42in in the waist, but since I've been riding and losing weight, they are super lose and I've had to punch two more holes in my belt just to keep them up, so I'm probably down to a 40 in waist or smaller at this point. I have a slightly wider saddle on my mountain bike (it's an old GT saddle... don't know the name of it, sorry). I actually prefer the Aliante though. Once I got used to the Aliante, I've had no problems with it, and it's been the best saddle I've used since I started cycling seriously 18 months ago.

Not sure if I'm right on this one or not but I don't think the size of the butt has anything to do with the width of the sit-bones that should be bearing the load. You might want to work out the dimension of those sit bones and take them into consideration when shopping for a saddle! I had an older selle not sure which model which has since been replaced with a Serfas RX, I honestly can't believe how comfy it is, and thought it was a gimmic until the first 100 or so miles passed amazingly comfortably.

With that I will add that I have seen some monstrous size butts on mighty tiny saddles and they still had smiles on their faces. Can't help but think of Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls" song whenever I see one. Alway's brings a smile to my face too!!

If you prefer a slightly wider sitting area, try the Fizik Vittesse.

Thanks for the comments. I have ordered an Aliante, so I will report back as to whether it fits my widely-spaced sit bones, so that anyone else in a similar situation butt-wise will have some idea whether it might work for them.

does anyone know if there is a rider weight limit for the carbon railed aliante?

180lbs is the recommended maxmimum for the carbon Aliante. Although I'm 160 I bought the titanium railed version: I figured a 30g weight difference was trivial in return for a reduced likelihood of breakage (especially if I eat too much over christmas).

If I remember correctly, there's also a weight limit on the titanium railed saddle. I think it's 250lbs, but not positive about that number.

Doh, I had my heart set on the carbon railed one...I weigh 185, worth the risk? I figure the carbon railed on would damp vibration better, true? I know that breaking my seat would royally suck, would it at least be warranteed? btw, where did you guys find the weight limits? Thanks.

I took delivery of my new Fizik Aliante today (and it just happened to be attached to my new Trek 5500 - woo hoo!), and got in a quick 30k after work before it got dark.

I can confirm that the Aliante works very well with the wider butt, and from the first moment it was clear that this was a very, very comfortable saddle. From the ecstatic reviews, I was expecting it to feel not so much like a saddle, but more like the gentle caressing of my nether regions by fair-haired virgins. It wasn't quite that good, but it is clearly better than any other saddle I've tried (the SI Prolink Trans Am, for example, good though that is), as well as being light. My only concern is its durability - it seems pretty fragile. But for comfort, it is superb.

(Oh, and the Trek 5500 and 10 speed Dura Ace also seemed pretty good too!)
