Here is an article about a guy who converted bikes to run in water in a moment of necessity during a flood. If you are car-free in a flood prone area, some inner tubes and paddles for the spokes might serve you well some time.

Very true. And, at the risk of sounding like a fiscal conservative (which I'm definitely not), it would be even better if I could somehow change Indian laws and customs so that inventive people could patent and market their ideas wihout getting robbed.
