Bicycle Mechanics - Buying a tool kit

I need a basic tool kit to build my new bike (I have the headset put in already.)

However, I hear that it is low quality and that I should stick with companies like park. Anyone have info/advice?

Check back with Performance. Every so often, I notice they sell the complete Park Tool kit for a ridiculously cheap price- like $79- 100 depending on what kind of sale they're having.

As a matter of fact, isn't Performance having a sale right now?

the lifu kit is crap. the allen keys will strip out and only cause headaches when you start stripping bolts. the tools will rust quickly, and wont be made of hard metal. id stick to buying the park tools when and if you need them instead of comprimising and buying a crappy kit.

I know it's tempting to buy inexpensive tools but you dont want to keep buying tools so just buy good to begin with.

The adage "You get what you pay for" is true. My parents bought me a set of Craftsman tools when I was 16, over 40 years ago. I still have them and they are still just as good as when I got them.

For bike tools, I tend to buy Park and Shimano. They are more expensive than some, but they are quality. I do, however, happen upon special deals. I bought a set of metric hex wrenches at Home Depot for about $6, and they are guaranteed for life. But that is the exception. When I really need a tool, I buy it. My next one will be a chain gauge, which is relatively cheap at $10.

Buy better tools. I'd just buy em as you need 'em, unless you're absolutely sure you need everything in the kit.
