Hello all,
So, I'm thinking about trying 'cross next season and had a couple of questions. How many laps does the Cat. 4 guys get in a 30 minute race on a 2 mile course? Also, what about disc brakes? The bike I have on order (Novara Element) has discs with the extra brake levers.
Thanks,
Chris

you will be fine with disc brakes
distance...in my one hour races we typically go about 16 miles, generally in the 7, 8, or 9 lap range.
A cat four race will probably be about 4 or 5 laps, but it really depends on the course itself and the weather.
for what that is worth
Thanks Cardstock! Any kind of racing is pretty intimidating to me, I hear cross races are pretty laid back and most are there just have fun anyway!

that is for sure, you will have a good time pretty much reguardless
You will be fine with the bike, the most important thing is tires if it is muddy.
Times and distance are very relative in cross. To be ready the most important thing is to get used to the intensity. It is only 30' but it is at full gas or at you max.
Start in the beginner, most fun is there and check out the other races to see how the other rides.
Most important have fun and ring the cow bells.
