Road Cycling - protecting painted frames

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Saw an add the other day in a cycle magazine for a product called Bike Shield; went to their site ( sportscover.cc ) and checked it out. They claim its the greatest thing ever but would rather hear it from some of you. Sounds like its adhesive strips that stick to the frame to protect it. Anyone ever use it?
If you want to protect your frame, DON'T ride it ;) . As I see it it’s just a clear sticker. What good can it do if the rock comes flying towards your frame?
Basicaly I figure there are two areas to protect on you're bike. Where the cables run along the headtube and along the chainstay, other then that just accept the nicks etc..
If you're looking for something cheap or perhaps even free, find a automobile detailer, somebody who does custom installs of clear auto bras, like Invicashield. If they buy the rolls and not the forms, they should have a ton of leftover material, too small to use on cars but perfect for stuff like chainstay protectors, headtubes, etc. In fact, they'll probably even give it to you for free cause they have no use for the scraps. I am in the process of getting a bunch from a dealer near me that I plan to use on my carbon Look that I just bought.
