cross riders in San Diego?

Anyone in San Diego? I'm getting a cross bike with aspirations of racing in the fall and was wondering where some good trails might be to get some experiance on? I'm thinking Peniquestos (sp) might be good, anywhere else? I'm pretty new in SD.

I've seen Cross races on the trails around the velodrome in Balboa Park.

The velodrome is on the north side of the park, off of Upas street.

I don't know schedules or anything, but hope that helps.

That area area that Velodrome is known as Florida Canyon.

There is a small section of trails near the UCSD track and field that is perfect for practicing on a cross bike. (Soft sand pits, off camber corners, short steep climbs and no rock gardens) Thats where I used to ride before moving...

Is that the route around the fitness course ("par course")?

yep, its around the fitness course, and then into the bushes
