Winter Cycling - More Snow!!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

AW? whats a little snow?//hahahahah!
The Hyperbole Channel™ is calling for a foot or more. If their prediction is that same as all the others this season, we'll get three or four inches.

Exactly my thought when my wife woke me up with, "They are saying 12-15 inches!!" The only time I've seen it snow that much here was when the weather people were saying "Just a dusting.." They are in this to sell advertising and nothings sells advertising like "THE SKY IS FALLING!!" Of course this doesn't explain why NOAA always overestimates too. Perhaps because they will lose funding if they miss a big storm...
------------
To the OP, I understand your situation is quite different and that in fact the sky has fallen, my sympathies. Maybe you need a week in Tucson or Mrytle beach to recharge and get some Vit. D.

and I thought it was bad getting almost 8 feet.
Ok it's not funny anymore, we'll need pontoons on our bikes if this ever decides to melt.

Wednesday was the toughest yet for cycling here in Orleans...I tried, but between the ice pellets, the wind and the snow, I couldn't get anywhere and had to admit defeat... first time this winter. Still, it was kind of amusing to try; the ice pellets kept pinging on my bell.
I do look forward to tomorrow, just to see if I can make any headway. It's been a good year if you enjoy a challenge - last year didn't give any bragging rights, but this year...

We have at least a foot here in Columbus and it is still coming down hard. The question is: Fixed gear or mountain bike? Suggestions?

I'm a snow-lover. Was out in it on the bike last night for hours. Even my cat's getting into it.
The 2*$60 laid down for studded tires in December is turning into the best bike money I ever spent.

Ah ha! You greedy Ohians kept all the snow and didn't leave much for those of us downwind from you.
As I predicted (above) we got considerably less than The Hyperbole Channel™ forecast.

On Saturday mornings, I always stop at Jim's Restaurant for breakfast, and to swap lies with the (other) old guys at the counter. Ordinarily, I ride a 20-mile long loop on the way, but today rode the direct two-mile route. They were impressed nonetheless.

A co-worker also got to work early this morning, so I had her take this shot.

I was not first tracks, BTW. The ones running across were already filling with snow.

I was astonished to see the first robins of spring. There were a half-dozen or so in the trees outside work. I guess what they say about the early bird getting the worm isn't always the case. They were very skittish, so I didn't get any really good shots, but here are two of them anyway.

There's a nice assortment of pictures in Ottawa at the Ottawa Citizen (http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/index.html#). Click on Reader Gallery, the Big Dig.
It's pretty remarkable, even for those of us used to living in this frozen wasteland.

Now I know where all our snow went:D
We've been having a fairly low snow winter here in the Buffalo NY area. It is pretty pathetic that a March 7th - 9th storm have us the single largest snow fall of the season, and that was only 25" I've driven home on a day where we got 38" in a matter of 3 to 4 hours... that made for a fun drive home. Good luck digging out of that amount of snow.
Happy riding (if you can find the road inbetween all that snow),
André
was watching the local news in toledo, oh and they were talking about how bad cleveland, oh got it. cool thing was their cleveland clip showed someone biking. I enjoyed the cold weather as a challenge but the heavy snows were a major setback to my commuting.

Aftermath in Montreal, QC.
The major streets are pretty good for riding but the residential streets are still pretty much what you see in the background...
