Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - gore bike wear path jacket

i think i am going to buy this jacket, but:
1.) is it windproof.
2.) if it's not windproof, will that matter especially much?
3.) if it's not windproof, is there anything practical i can get to shield me from the wind?

says it's waterproof (as opposed to water resistant), which is a big draw for a kid living in new england. what do y'all think?

Sweet, I like that jacket. I won't buy it, don't worry - I got plenty of jackets, including this:

This jacket is water and wind proof. It's also molten lava-proof. It's brutal. Also price-wise.

As for the Path jacket - seems like a sweet deal, but I know nothing about the brand. And when you're cycling at close to freezing and it's raining, you want to trust the brand of your clothes.

I've had my eye on that path Jacket, too. It looks like it would be nice. I like that it's on sale, too!

A visit to the Gore Bike Wear web site leads me to believe it is both waterproof and windproof but they don't list that exact model jacket...probably discontinued. I have a couple of Gore jackets and both are windproof and both are excellent for cycling. It's a pretty safe bet that if something is waterproof then it is also windproof (or highly wind-resistant) but the reverse isn't always true. Just so you know, waterproof usually means not very breathable...even Gore stuff.

Gore-tex is both waterPROOF AND windproof.

They also make gore windstopper which is only wind proof and water resistant.

If you've not sampled the fruits of a Gore-tex product ever... I can tell you that it is worth every penny.

Cool, I have a Patagonia rainshadow that I wear. I just wish it wasn't a woman's small, everything is great but the body length when I bend forwards on my bike, and I'm 5"11' so that's not surprising. It's sealed and everything.

The material that the jacket is made of will be treated with Gore-Tex' in house waterproofing. According to them its not silicone because silicone doesn't breathe. But I would wager its a light dusting of it.

The fabric itself however is NOT waterproof EVEN on the Gore-Tex systems. Gore-Tex is a separate membrane (like a layer). You can clearly see this if you have any Gore-Tex products that you have never treated with waterproofing (which you shouldn't). The fabric will easily absorb the water and appear wet. You however... will be perfectly dry.

+1 from someone who worked sports retail far too long. i have a pretty badass Marmot half-zip that uses the N2S technology from back when that stuff was hitting the shelves. it's windproof and fairly water resistant, but still very breathable. s'gotta weird shape around the waist now, though.

if i was getting a new jacket i'd go with something like the marmot motion (http://www.basegear.com/marmot-motion-jacket.html).

Just so you know, waterproof usually means not very breathable...even Gore stuff.

But Gore-Tex is HANDS DOWN THE MOST breathable waterproofing system available.

I would also consider it far better to be dry and sacrifice a little breathability than to be soaked and have breathable fabric.

Whoa! I have that Pantagonia jacket...its amazing.
its umm, thin, windproof, and water proof, it also fits quite well, on me at least.
Id say you have to give good look around, you should really try to find one locally, so you see the fit, its really important.

If you work up a sweat, you could become pretty wet.
