Does anyone have any up to date information in regards to the track? I recently became interested in track racing and would like to go there and check it out. It seems it would be starting up again in the spring time but the website has not been updated in over a year. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.

Here's their website: Washington Park Velodrome (http://www.333m.com/)

Thanks for the link but I have already seen that, it hasn't been updated in over two years.

It's a little early for the trackies to get things up on the site. You can see from last year's schedule that the season doesn't start til mid-April.

Basically, Monday night is practice racing for $2. Stock bikes, no shifting. Get there late because it takes a long time to get through all the kid's races first.

Tues. night is USCF race night - track bikes only. Give it a try. This is last year's schedule to give you an idea of what to expect. http://www.333m.com/schedule/2007Schedule.htm

Wed. night is ABR Master's racing. I think they run 2 timed events and 1 mass start. Catagories are probably 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+, 65+, 70+ & 80+.

Also, if you are coming down I94, another 45 minutes will get you to the Northbrook (IL) track. The Mon & Tues night treaining sessions are well worth it. Racing is Thurs night and Stock Bike/Cat5 racing is Fri night.

Sounds like track racing is full of life yet. I raced track for a couple seasons in the late '80's ... lots of fun for a roadie. Hope to get down there for some spectating this summer. Anyone remember the Brown Deer Park velodrome in Milwaukee??

So on Monday and Tuesday I can bring my own whip (90's Cannondale Track) and sign up and race? How competitive is it? Are there a lot of new younger people (I am 20 and have only ridden fixed for about a year) Do they offer any beginner classes or lessons there? Sorry for all the questions but I am really interested about how all this works. Thanks for the help so far.

Sweet! A big frame (60cm) and a white turbo saddle (such a classic!) :)

On Mondays, are brakes allowable?
I've watched a few Tuesday nights, I own a track bike and live here. Seems like a pretty ideal situation for me.

Yes, Mondays are stock bikes - standard road bikes but you cannot shift once the race starts. I don't recall any actual track bike racing on Mondays for adults??? - TF

This is off-topic a bit, but I don't think it deserves a new thread. If anyone from Madison is interested in carpooling to Kenosha let's make it happen this spring/summer. I have a car with room for 3 bikes/people to be comfortable and I plan on driving to Kenosha at least a few times. Taking turns driving would be swell (whoever rides helps pay gas).

I first must build a track bike though...

Otherwise, maybe us amateurs could meet up for some unofficial rides/races sometime?

does that mean a road bike with 175mm cranks would be able to ride the 'drome with no problems (eg. pedal strike)?

On the track, pedal strike happens on the outside when going slow on the banking (as opposed to the inside on a flat road). Don't go slow on the banking. - TF

I believe I've ridden Kenosha on my road bike with 172.5's. 175? It's got to be close ... just ride fast. :D

We've got a velodrome just a couple of miles from me (http://www.velodromeatbloomerpark.com/) that I spectate at a couple times a year. They also have some public hours where you can ride your own bike or they'll put you on a track bike for some laps. I've been very tempted to try it, but am not sure if I could take the "I told you so's" from my DW if I fall off and picked up some track burn or worse. :(

Hey, keep me in mind if you ever do around to making this road trip. I've never ridden a velodrome, and I think this is one of those things I should do before I die (which could be any day now, since I'm one old fart). I'm not competitive enough to race, just do laps at my own pace and enjoy the experience.

funny thing is I used to play around the kenosha velodrome as a kid to and from school (jefferson elementary) always making fun of anyone that would ride a bike in a big oval. Now i'll be one of those guys hopefully come spring.

Now i just make fun of Nascar going around in large circles :)
