A friend of mine would like to buy an aerobar to install on his road bike. He searched for certain models and found that there are usually in two diameter size, 25.8 mm and 31.7 mm.

However, the diameter of the handlebar of his road bike measures in between the two figures.

Can anyone give him some advice, whether he should buy the small size or the large size (and use flexible rubber to fill in the gap between between the aerobar clamp and the handlebar)?

The aerobar that I use came with shims to fit different diameter handlebars. If this one doesn't, check with your LBS. They will either have them or be able to get them.

So...then the answer would be that he should get the larger ones as long as the LBS has shims for him.
