Mountain Biking - every bikers nightmare

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

today as i was out biking my pedal snapped, but i didnt think to mutch of it and just presumed that it would go back on. but it didnt. what had heppened was the pedal had slowly worked its way loose untill when it was nearly off it just got ripped off as i put my foot down and tore all of the threads off the crank:(
so after walking my bike home and looking at it closely i decided that i definatly needed a new crank but that was £100 odd (i always use 3 pc) and i dont have that kind of money. after spending a while thinking about it i realised that the bike was still new enough and i could claim on the warrenty good yes ? well not exactly i now have to send the bike back and wont get it for at least 2 weeks wich would normally be bad but now convenyantly(sp?) i have my week off in 1 weeks time.
and we were planing to go to this huuuuuge skatepark that is along way off and we go there like 1s a year.
dam life is tough:(

Yeah, it’s bad when equipment fails, but it is up to you to maintain your bike. How can you not notice a lose pedal, especially on a mountain bike. Unless there is something else you are not saying, it's totally your fault.

yea i know it sounds as though you would notics it but i can honestly say that i didnt notcie untill about 5 seconds before it snapped
By "notice” I mean INSPECT. It is essential for an MTB because of amount of abuse. To be safe, do an inspection of the whole bike before every ride. This procedure is even more important if you have carbon fiber parts.
You won't get a warranty. Period.
Get the crank arm helicoiled and everything will be fine.
Inspect your bike before every ride, otherwise you are just asking for trouble.

I lived my nightmare, and that was falling off the bike in mid air, and now, I'm paying the consequences for it.

A Wall Mart brand. I actualy had Kendas for over 3 years and never had problems with them. But if you do replace them with something from your LBS, keep in mind the conditions you do most of your riding in.
Kenda makes some good tires.
The Blue Groove and the Nevegal are turning out to be AWESOME tires. I have heard nothing but good things. The Kinetics are also a good tire.
Kenda is as much a Wal-Mart brand as WTB is. Both make cheap tires, but both make some decent ones (although I would opt for a Kenda over a WTB anytime.)
