Hey guys/ladies. I'm finally getting around to buying a new bike since I finally have some extra cash around.

I haven't had a bike of my own in a few years. My last one was a Gt Dyno or...Dyno Gt. Whatever that one worked out to be.

Anyways, a few months back I finally rode my first freeagent. It was an old speedway and recently I've been using a loaned Eluder. My question to you guys is what kind of bike should I get?

I'm definitely getting a 20" but I don't know what brand nor bike to go with.

My first thoughts were a new FreeAgent Speedway, Redline Proline XL and a FreeAgent Trailduster (light weight man :D!)

But, I've come somewhere where I hoped I could get some thoughts.

New FreeAgent Speedways are trash. However the older ones has a really strong frame. I have a FreeAgent Speedway frame that was purchased around 2000. It has taken a beating but still good and strong. Except if you get one you should get new parts and keep the frame.

Why are the new ones trash? What drastic change has taken place?

First off it is a race bike, the newer ones are made from aluminum. Unless you are going to race, go for it. The older ones are made from chromoly, which is stronger. The Speedway being a race bike I wouldn't really recommend it. I do street and some park with the older FA I haven't had problems but I'm not a heavy rider. Anyways what are you planning to do?

Actually...I have mixed wants out of the bike I get.

I'll be using it as a car alternative for awhile since I don't feel like paying 3.90+ for a gallon of gas.

So it'll be being ridden around the city a lot.

I stress the A LOT.

On another not, I plan to take whatever bike I get off road a bit and onto some dirt jumps.

This is why I'm having a dilemma.

Any other alternatives that are open are welcome.

My limit is probably about 700 dollars.

I did look at a Flight Pro XXL today and liked it a bit.

Again! Suggestions are welcome.

Links would be a plus.

Most the bikes you are looking at seem to be race bikes. 700$ is a good limit a couple hundred more and you could get a custom. You can browse this site (http://www.danscomp.com/index.php) for stuff.
Here are some decent bikes:

P.S. Using a bmx to get around town isn't that great of an idea but whatever floats your boat.

Personal preference really. I know it would probably be more comfortable to get a road bike or something but...I want another bmx.

Something I can still take through a dirt course on occasion

Sounds like you should take a look at 24 or 26" if you are going to use it as an alternative to a car...

Mine as well get a mtb at that point. TT size is all preference.

Definitely not something I want to go with right now. I've used an FA 24 cruiser and it's not a feel I like. I'm quite content with BMX size bikes :)

I've decided that I need to take off the "I want to ride it around town" line.

Let's try this again.

BF members, I want a bmx jump bike :D

Dirt jumps ftw. Help out if you can. I was looking into some bikes and decided that they were more of what I want. Chromo frame + lighter weight = My desire. I looked at the newer FA Hellcat. Opinions?

Thanks for the suggestion. I really like the subrosa bikes :)

Well, after taking a stroll into a few local bike shops I've narrowed down the options.

My first one that I really liked was this:

The second bike that I was shown and really felt comfortable on was this:

And of course I'm still very much into the Redline Flight Pro XXL which can be seen here:
http://www.redlinebicycles.com/bmxracing/bikes/flight-pro-xxl.htm

I'm really liking all of them and just looking for everyones opinion on the three and if you were me, what would you go with.

Don't get the redline.
It's useless for anything other than racing.
Period.

Alrighty. So between the other two what would you recommend bmx? If neither of those. Then what?

The fit flow is a REALLY nice complete.
I'd go with that for sure.

Yea the Fit Flow is the only good bike out of those.

They are both great choices do you want to spend the $130.00 extra now or use that $ for upgrades.
I know you are set on a jumper but, if later you need to commute & sitll ride trails look into a single speed
I've had one for a long time & it's my favorite.

My only issue is I want a bike that is comfortable to me. My local retailer doesnt carry kink bikes so I'd be pissing in the wind on that one. This is the reason I'm narrowed down between the eastern and the fit.

It has the same-size toptube as the Fit. It's a great buy for the money. I think there is even another discount code that makes that bike even more ridiculously cheap.

AlphaOmegaX
03-09-08, 04:33 PM
How would I go about finding the discount code?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm going to take your opinions to heart and go with the Kink Apex. If anyone has bought a bike from Danscomp how is the service?

And, is this bike going to be good at multitasking :)?

For Dan's discount codes, go to http://www.danscomp.com/coupons. They don't seem to have any this year yet, probably because they had so many deals going around at the end of the year when they were trying to deplete old stock.

I'd love to see a single speed on this:p

You realize that a BMX bike is a single-speed, right?

Does that actually work right now, though? Those codes only work between specific dates.

It did, I'm not sure if it still does. If not, I've got a 10% kicking around that I know works.

it indeed did not work :D

Yes but I'm pretty sure that wasn't what he was talking about.

Also the first coupon code works. Used it Wednesday or Thursday and got 30$ off.
