Yesterday the weather was pretty crappy and I decided to use a car share to do my errands instead of putting up with 30 MPH winds, hard rain and mid-thirty degree temp. What a mistake that was! I was not even in the car for 5 whole minutes before being stuck in a huge jam and not going anywhere for at least 45 minutes, during that time I watched a cyclist cruise by on the side of that jam packed road! Why do people put up with all that crap in cars??!! No wonder they hate us so much!! We can just about go anywhwere we want without the unbelievable nerve racking excuse they call driving... Time to put aside the car share for true emergencies only.

Ha! about the same thing happened to me and my cohort. I decided to ride my bike from the job site to the motel while he drove the truck. Distance is about 7 miles or so. Took me just a shade over 25 minutes, took him over 40:D He passed me right after we cleared the outside gate which is about a mile from the plant gate, I passed him 20 minutes later stuck in the typical late afternoon traffic jam at the big interchange. I don't know if it is the volume or the lights just suck, but it can take 20 minutes to 9/10ths of a mile across that zoo, sad part is that there aren't really any alternate routes.

I know what you mean. I almost always regret it when I take some other transit rather than my bike. For example, I bussed downtown to the City Market this afternoon because of 30 mph headwinds. Of course, now that I'm ready to go home the headwind is a tailwind, and I'm facing a 40 minute walk instead of an 8 minute bike ride. :(

Did you mean, "I should have ridden my bike yesterday?"

Even with gas going up in price I have seen very little decline in traffic anywhere around me. I imagine people will continue to sacrifice spending in other aspects of their lives and perpetuate the resession just to keep the car usage at status quo.

My fiance has a car and I do use it when am running several errands around town and have to get it done in a short period of time, but usually afterward I find myself thinking about how I could have accomplished it on my bike with just a little more time and better planning...then I proceed to kick myself several times.
