Folding Bikes - Yes even in the poorest part of the world

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If I were you I'd blur that or something. You're liable to be acused of providing child pornography or something ridiculous. Better safe than sorry.

I went ahead and removed the second pic. Sorry, I realize it was in context, but could create issues. The bike is still visible in the first though

Its sad that we have to be worried about an innocent picture. (that's a whole other thread)

Well, I didn't complain about it, but I'm glad it's gone. It's not the "innocent" aspect that bothered me. It's that, in some way, you take away a bit of that kid's dignity for no particular good reason.

Naaa - the whole western world has gone nuts about this kind of thing. there is NOTHING undignified about a naked kid, or a naked adult come to that. Our society has been completely screwed about this subject all because of fear of a tiny minority of bizarre perverts. We had a news reader reported to the police recently by a photo processing lab when she handed in a film containing a picture of her daughter playing in the bath!!!

A toddler without pants on is nothing to be shocked at, and neither is he undignified. My father took a picture of me sitting on what we call a 'potty' when I was about a year old. It is a hugely funny picture. I have pictures of my own boys in the bath, and of them taking a p*ss in the woods too. They are innocent, funny pictures of childhood. They like them now that they're in their twenties as much as their mother an I do.

Taken to extremes by the pc brigade, thsi is where we end up ->

Well, it's one thing to take a picture of your son in the bath, or peeing in the woods, so that you can show it to his fiance' when he grows up, but quite another to show a picture of someone in an "exposed" way, without their permission, to a global audience, particularly when that person is completely beside the point of the topic.

It's not a question of nakedness being dignified or undignified. I'm all for looking at naked pictures of well paid models acting under their own free will. I am disturbed by people portrayed in in an exposed way where they have no control, or choice in the matter.

I'm just afraid that it might end up on some "Bizzare website" and get quoted that my beloved Bike Forums is the source.
Anyway, back to topic....yes, folding bikes are somewhat ubiquitous.

Would you be okay sharing those pics on a public forum, though? :D

Geeze - most of the kids in that part of the world are probably running around like that, like they do in most tropical environments. Quite a few of the adults do also with no concept of being "exposed". Nor are they too concerned about having control over it's portrayal. The only time it's a problem is when westerners insist on forcing their Judeo-Christian mores upon them. For their own good, of course.

In the US sex is just another commodity, like most things. By controlling access you put yourself in a position to rake in a few bux in the process, hens the well paid "models". The church figured this out long ago. Ya want the goodies, ya gotta get married. The beer companies did as well.

And back to the thread...unfortunately not many folders in America. Like decent passenger rail service and public transportation, there's not much interest.

Of children? I think maybe they don't show nude children anymore because of sickos. Not entirely sure. I haven't been a subscriber in a long while now.

Oh? I guess you asked the kid in the original post? Asked his parents did you?

You don't know how that kid, or his parents would feel about it.

As I noted, for me, it's not about the specific image. It's about the fact that we recognize it as culturally sensitive and yet don't give a s*** about how the kid in the image might feel about it.

My wife and I once watched a program about tribesmen in New Guinea. The adult males wore nothing but penis sheaths. The film maker asked one of the men if he would ever go out without his penis sheath. The man was shocked. NO! He'd never go out without his penis sheath. He'd feel naked!

I lived for a while in the Marshall Islands. There, the idea of a woman's breasts being exposed was no big deal. But a woman wearing short pants and exposing her thighs was shocking!

You really don't know how that kid, or his family would feel about that image being shown to a global audience. We recognize that it can be sensitive. It adds nothing to the topic of discussion. It was a good call to remove it.

People...back to the folder in question. What brand was it? Who owned it? What was the owner using it for?

(We don't want to get this thread moved to P&R too, yes?)

A kind of know that this thread will need to be " processed " by power that be of BF. Thanks you for the critique. I am quite sure with all your input recorded so far, NO BODY can misconstrue the intention of this forums.
I came across this pic while in Cambodia on a boat trip at Tonle Sap. Part of the Ankor Wat pilgrimage. There are folding bike of so many brands in Thailand, Vietnam & Cambodia. You can get a Dahon type folder for 1500 Baht. This one particularly strike my fancy because of the Brompton feature.
All in all, any of you plan to travel that part of the world, I can assure you that you can pick up a folder cheaply.
My next trip to the Thailand-Burma border, will hopefully bring more detail to BF.
Cheers
