Northern California - Peets Coffee

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So they finally opened Peets Coffee down here. Thank GOD. The coffee shop that it replaced had even worst coffee then Starbucks. So basically only alternative was this "mom/pop" shop on campus, since I don't like to go to Starbucks, which damn administration keeps threatening to close (thats a whole other issue ). They have good coffee, but since it's a booth outside nowhere to seat and just chill.
Anyway when I worked in Bay Area the company had Peets Coffee outlet in the cafeteria which had this awesome "Oregon Chai". The location here doesn't have it. :( Is that just NorCal thing? I really miss it.

Hmmm ... not sure. I know there are a bunch of Peet's down there. Pasadena's had one, even when I used to live down there (which was about 9 years ago).
Another good Starbuck's alternative is Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Company. Big presense in SoCal. That's one thing they don't have in the bay area.

Good huh? One just opened a few miles away and they mailed a discount coupon to try it out; will do! Thanks for the tip!

Peet's is opening up a lot of stores in SoCal. There are 2 in Pasadena and handful on the Westside. I used to work at Peet's and stores usually don't carry products from other companies. The Peet's in your cafeteria wasn't an official Peet's store. It was just using the name, the drinks, possibly barista training, and some products. You can get Oregon Chai from places like Whole Foods.

We've got 2 in town! And one of our teammates works at one of them so he hooks us up! Peet's has this awesome policy where they only keep beans in store for a certain number of days after which they have to "dispose" of what doesn't get used. So, the coffee gets disposed right into the hands of us fellow team members!

Also, if you're in NorCal, Raley's/Bel Air/Nob Hill grocers just announced that Peet's is taking over the in-market coffee shops. So my town will get two shortly...no longer need to drive to Davis. :)

There's a Peet's here in SLO now too and it's 4 blocks from my office. It's becoming a problem though. My fiancee and I are in there so much the staff all know us by first name and we were even customers of the week last week. They just gave us both Peet's mugs to cut down on our paper cup consumption... Like I said, it really is becoming a problem but their coffee is so damn good!!
