We take a wrong turn, wind up 40 miles out of the way. We get to the race this afternoon with 15 minutes to spare. When I get out of my car sleet is coming down. We pee, register, pin our numbers and line up freezing our baggets off. I was so ticked from getting there late I forget to eat and didn't put but one bottle on my bike - and one clif bar in my jersey.
The race is 6 laps with a nasty hill to the finish.
1st lap 5 people are dropped, including my team mate. I'm hanging on the rear of the lead pack.
2nd lap more people are dropped on the climb. I'm getting hungry and light headed.
3rd lap I find my food and eat but start running out of fluid. I also peer down for but a second, look up and the group comes to a crawl. I cross my front wheel with someone's rear wheel, swerve to the left, unclip, barrel off the road, clip back in, bunny hop the curb, and sprint to the pack. NOW THE ADRENALINE IS FLOWING, BABY!
4th lap over 20 people total are dropped on the race at this point. I'm still hanging on and still feel light headed from lack of food.
LAST LAP. No great attacks. thank God. We have 20+ people left and I'm still hanging on. We get to the climb and I think, quit hanging on and do something, you idiot. I do something, I stand on it hard and weave through the crowd. I must have passed over 10 riders.
200m I pass more.
100m I'm almost puking.
Finish - I get 6th and a 10 dollar check. I'm stoked!! :)
mo money mo money - oh and mo points mo points. ;)
