Anyone else interested? Solidified plans? Can't make it? Speak up! Flakers will be fined!I've been thinking lately that it might be fun to go on a ride where everyone brings their "other" bike. You know, the road-tired mountain bike, the hybrid, the cruiser, the decked-out commuter, the folder, the recumbent, the fixed-gear, the "etc".

Just bring what ya got, go for a fun ride, and make a day of it. Big on the social, somewhat less on the hammering. ;)

Sound interesting to anyone? Any thoughts? I have no time frame in mind, nor a route. Just an idea.

haha nice!

Except I ride my commuter 5-days per week. I like to get on my speed machine on weekends ;)

With that said, I'd still want to do it!

I'd have to get more comfortable with my recumbent. I still have issues with making a left turn on the recumbent. If I don't get freaked out with simple riding maneuvers on the bent, I'll bring it ... but then again, how do I fit that in my car? It's got a really long wheel base.

Oooo! Okay!!

Seriously. I'd want to go. I've been doing the management things for him while he's gone so maybe he will give me a special day off.

ONE of these days I'll make it. Honestly.

I'm not that good on the unicycle yet....Training wheels, perhaps? :p

It was your dearly departed that reminded me of my thoughts for such a ride, actually. So maybe this thing can get going once you find a replacement, if there's enough interest.

I just think it'd be a ton of fun to get as disparate a group of bikes together as possible, and just cruise around. :)

I guess I better put some grease on the old 900 lb USS RustBucket!

That would be great, sounds like fun!

BTW, I've been scouring CL and ebay as well as the Bike Friday website. Checked out a cheapo used folder from CL yesterday but it was a piece of crap. The search continues.

Great idea for a different kind of ride. Hmmmm, which one of my alternatives do I choose??? That'll be the hard part for me.

If I can be of help with folders, feel free to ask!

BTW, did you see the Bike Friday Pocket Rocket on CL?

By the way, whether you buy, borrow, or steal something, I have some Shimano M324 pedals (platform on one side, SPD on the o'er) that I don't use anymore, if you want.

Hopefully it can be sometime around April.

I need at least a week and a half's notice before I can request a day off.

Can I still bring my roadie if I promise to ride slowly? The only other bike I have is an mtb with 2" knobbies. I just don't feel like riding roads on that.

Unless of course someone puts together a BF off-road ride.

Unless of course someone puts together a BF off-road ride.We definitely need to get some of those going, as well. I have a mountain bike that's never seen a trail (and nor have I) in its several years of life.

As for location, I have no idea. I figured it would need to be pretty flat, considering some of the bikes probably won't be climbing machines. Ideal, I think, would probably be somewhere with lots of fun places to stop, so as to break up the ride some. One can get around SF without dealing with hills, right? I don't know how practical that would be, or if it would pass anything interesting.

Hey, I only have the idea, I don't know locations. Let's get brainstorming! ;)

How bout I take you through and around the city with barely hitting a hill? We'll meet at the Ferry Building San Francisco. We'll lunch in either the mission or avenues for falafals, which would be safer for the bikes.
3-4 hr ride...give me a date and time. Coming weekend can't do, Full scheduale and I need time to get ..."Le piece of Krappa" up and running.

Today I did a small ride similar to what's being proposed. We had a tandem, a bent, a mountain bike and a road bike. We even swapped bikes a couple of times; that was a lot of fun and something to consider, if some people have pedal compatibility. I didn't get a chance to try the bent, it made me nervous watching someone else try it for the first time. It had a short wheelbase and low handlebars, it looked scary.

Msincredible, I talked to a guy riding a Bike Friday today at the Marin Headlands. I asked him how it handled, climbed, if it was stiff enough if you're cranking hard, etc. He gave me the impression that he has ridden several brands of folders and he said Bike Friday was the best, and he kinda indicated that it was as good as a road bike for his purposes (although I didn't ask him exactly what he used it for). I think you've already come to this conclusion, but I just wanted to add what little data I had.

What about those of us who have only one bike? Can we bring our speed machines and feel fast for just one day as we blow past all the hybrids and recumbs on the uphills?

True, but I don't know that you want me taking the Duc on the "other bike" ride.

Unless I bring some bungee cords along that is. :p

a) You bring bungee cords.
b) You participate in the ride swap. (Or at least give me a ride, come on!)

If it's a flat route, I think I'll ride this:

Or, if we're not going too fast, maybe this:

Hey, maybe if I can find someone to ride with me, then this:
