Road Cycling - How to set my new tires?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I purchased a new set of Conti GP3000. Yet i do not know what is the proper way to set them. There are two options - How do I know which one is the right? is there a sign to use?

What do you mean by "setting" your tires?

assuming i need to set the front tire on my front wheel. Ok i konw how to do it, but there are 2 options - left and right (180 degree). how to know which is right? i guess the tire manufacture creates them for use on a specific way, while assuming you ride forward.

Most road tires are NOT directional. If they are they would be marked for direction of rotation on the sidewall. Your GPs will run fine in either direction. I always set my tires so that the colored label is on the right and next to the valve stem.
Good Luck

It really doesn't matter with road tires I usually mount the tires like demoncyclist.
If a tire has a pronounced V tread pattern I will mount the tire such that the V points forward as you look down on the tire. The thinking is that as the tire rolls on a wet road, the point of the V starts any standing water moving to the side of the tire. The reverse mounting would force water into the centre of the tread.
Does it really matter... I doubt it.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but I will try to offer some guidance. I don't know that there is an actual rotation direction on many road tires. Those that do would probably be marked. As much for aesthetics as anything else I think most people face the label toward the drive side of the wheel with the stem centered in the label. This just looks tidy.

With a V-pattern, I set mine so the front wheels scoops up dirt to aid braking, and the rear wheel shoves dirt back for traction.
On tarmac it really doesnt matter too much.
Some people swap their tyres around , front and back, or flip them on the wheel, to even out wear.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!! I hope you're not confused, Mossi. I just went and looked and the old GP3000 on my front wheel, and the Continental Ultra Gatorskin on my rear, and there is a label on each side of them. It doesn't matter how you put them on, just make sure you don't pinch the tube.
