I'm having a little trouble disassembling the front of my bike. I've taken out a long screw from the top with an allen wrench. I've tried pulling after that, but it didn't seem to help. The part where the handle bar bit connections with the frame appears to have a screw off type part, but I'm not sure if this is just looks. I've included a top down and side view to help you help me.

OK, take that long bolt and screw it back in at least a few turns. Now, smack it with a mallet. There is an angled wedge inside that fastens the stem in place that needs to be dislodged.

If it still won't come loose it could be a bit seized. Some penetrating lube and some leverage should free it.

Haha, does your bike have a rear fork
You need to take the stem (the grayish metal part with the allen head in the top). So, loosen the allen head and try to twist off the whole stem/handlebar assembly. You're correct about the handlebar connection, loosen the screw that fastens the clamp to the bars, however, you'll need to take off the brakes, shifters, and tape before you can get the bars off completely.

One more thing, how do I remove the forks now? I'm not sure if it was a lockring or something keeping it together still. Any ideas from the photos?

You will need headset wrenches or a large adjustable wrench. The headset nut is a standard righty-tighty type with a cup and a locknut on top. Be careful when pulling the fork to catch any loose bearings, though most will be in a cage.
