Mountain Biking - Time for a new HT frame

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My bike has been in pieces for about 2 years and now that Im out of college, its time to ride again. Ive donated my old frame so I need to get a new one. Price is a big factor in this since Im trying to buy a house.
Ive narrowed it down to 10 choices. Riding style is all XC. Fork is 100mm Reba SL.
Here are the contenders:
Azonic AZ7

I wont be the one riding it though.
Thoughts on the Scott 40?

I can't form an opinion on any of these as I haven't ridden them, but I did just buy a DMR Trailstar frame and it looks to be extremely beefy. It also weighs about 6 pounds so if you want something light then you may want to look at another frame. But I can't wait to get it all put together! :D

That was one of my concerns with the Trailstar. Post some pics when its all built!

It would be very hard to break a sinister. Frank The Welder doesn't make a junky frame.

I definitely will! Here's the frame and fork for now (full rigid and singlespeed):

get a handjob.
they're a bit hard to find these days--the web site still says tribe 2006, but they're essentially indestructible. the steel construction is surprisingly light and very stiff.
i have an 06 handjob that i've been rebuilding with newer components.
recently installed a corsa fork and swapped out for tubeless.
a deus crank is in the works as well as a x9 rear derailleur.
Bumps.
Honorable mention: Banshee Viento.

i second that, the handjob really caught my eye as high quality and great looks.
I'd make my choice based on geometry preferences.
Theyre all relatively close.

I would go for a steel frame. I dig them. I have a friend that is very happy with his handjob.........wow that just didn't come out sounding right.

Agreed. I'm not sure if I would even take a free bike if it had "Handjob" attatched to it.

There are sooooooo many places I could go with this one...... let's just say that one's gonna cost ya.

if it bothers you so much to have a high quality indestructible steel hard tail with killer geometry and rigid contstruction, or showing up at the trails with a bike no one else likely has ever seen...
the stickers come off.
and it's just a COVE.
so there.
i'll take it over a bontrager killing TREK any day:P

Oh, you're sick.
:D
You know what I meant. Also, I think Trek is trying to quash Klein as well. I've NEVER seen a Klein in at a dealer. I have seen a Klein being ridden, and it was a kewl bike. Stealth as well.
No votes for the On One Scandal? I hear good things about it at mtbr, the niner though...
1. Cove HandJob
2. On One Scandal
3. Scott Scale 40
If I can push the budget to $600 than Im going for the Viento with no hesitation.

i almost considered getting an on one or a surly.
i liked the cove because of their tubing design and reputation.

The Cove or the Sinister. IMO, those two are the best all rounders out of that list. You've got some XC race frames mixed in with some much burlier frames, so it's sort of an odd list.

+1. That's why I doubt the claim that all of the frames are similar in geometry.
It would be very hard to break a sinister. Frank The Welder doesn't make a junky frame.True that . . . seems a bit overbuilt for an XC-only rig, though, with the BMXish head tube gussets (actually looks like something that would appeal to me).
my Deep Cove Handjob has been awesome! i have been doing XC races with it. it built up nicely and seems to be of high quality.
it also has a beer can opener on the dropout.
