Mountain Biking - Lost my riding partner.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I learnt today that my riding partner has damaged his cartlidge in his knee and needs an op. Its likely to keep him out for about 3 months. He doesnt do much riding with me anyways but he is the oly partner i have and it doesnt feel the same unless your riding with a m8 .
I was looking for some good tips on finidng riding partners.... As mountain biking isnt quite as popular in the Uk as it is America its had to find riders on your travels... Does anyone have any ideas on how i can find myself a new riding buddY?
A dog makes a great riding buddy! ;) Any local clubs in your area? If so clubs are the best way to find people to ride with.

I have never really had a consistent partner. There are 3 or 4 guys I have that will call me or I can call for a good ride.
To find a new buddy...riding club or someone at work...I can't really say how because everyone here rides so finding people is easy. Go on a popular trail and find a group, chat it up and then ride...:)

Knee injuries suck, at least he'll be back in a relatively quick time.
Definately take part in group rides.
Post a note on a local bulletin board...bike shop, market, pub, etc.

hang out at the trail head for a bit and tag along with whomever comes along.

:p
Good luck with that!

I can't find a steady riding partner to save my life! Oh well. I've never had a problem riding solo anyhow.

well, i have had the fortune (correction: choice :) ) to live in places where mountain biking is popular, so maybe it's not as easy (worked well 3 times, moving to Portland, Massachusetts and Munich)...
but what works for me is finding local groups - for example i am now active in a group here in munich and lead a weekly ride plus guided tours on the weekend. we also have a message board where people get together to ride... there is also another message board where i have met a few hard-core Freeriders/Downhillers.
so search the web and/or ask at bike shops about MTB groups. each group is different so you might need to try a few to meet your age/skill/style. ride with the group and soon you'll have quite a few riding buddies. it takes a few months but it's worth it!
Mountain biking just really isn't as popular here in Florida. We have a local cycling group but most of them are a lot older than me, and they meet at like 9 AM on Sunday morning which is entirely too early for me.
