Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Fuji OBEY track

im new to SS/FG (usually ride road bikes), what do u guys think about this bike. Not gonna be used for track, just for fun. Any input would be helpful. thanx in advance.

I would be inclined to buy a nicer frame and build it up for that price tag. Unspecified cro-moly and Formula hubs seem kind of downscale for that price tag.

Holy schnike! I haven't seen that bike before. Looks like Fuji took their standard track frame, and added some standard fixie fashion elements. blacked out, Gold ano everywhere, Miche Pr1mato cranks, and a brooks swift! and a production bike with no tape on the bars! :-O

The saddle is worth more than the ***** frame. Overall it's a kinda nice looking bike. I don't persoanlly care for gold anodized parts, and for that money I'd rather start with a nicer frame and build it myself with parts of my own choosing. Then again Fujis often get pretty inexpensive on end of year sales, this might be a nice bargain next year.

Somewhere a designer for Obey put together a concept of a bike that represents Obey's brand. If you like it, get it. Sure you could get a better bike, but this bike is very unique. Don't ask for people to feel the same way you do, they won't. I havent seen one of these on the street yet, so its not as lame as a Langster, IMO. I kind of like the bike. Buy it if you can afford it.

Yeah, I also kinda like it, but not for the price. I think the frameset is really very cool - shame they aren't sold separately.

The OBEY frameset is a much nicer and lugged frame than the standard Fuji Track frame.

You can get a Pista Concept and put some high-quality, bling-bling components for that much money. You could probably do a full NJS build for that much money. Basically, you could build something REALLY nice with that money. You could even have a shop build something up for you with some nice handbuilt wheels.

I also just looks like they did a search of the picture thread looked at what was most common and slapped it on one bike.

if i had a 1500 hundred buck budget I think I would go i a different direction. I have a hard on for converted steel tri-bikes myself. look around I am sure you will find something in lugged steel you like

I also won't shop at Buckle anymore for shoes/clothes.

The reason? Shepard Fairey. I can't stand him or the 'obey' crap. I feel he gives designers a bad name and his work is completely self-serving. I refuse to support a company who works with him in these fashions.

Brand it as propoganda and pocket the proceeds... clever, but he's a tool.

Im not trying to be a jerk but it sounds like you have an ill-informed knee jerk opinion based on the kind of people you see wearing obey clothes. Shepard fairey is an artist. not a designer. hes just a regular guy.

p.s. i had never heard of a buckle store. i looked it up. maybe you shouldn't shop there because its ****ING LAME. as for that bike, theres a shop down here that has one, which is surprising for florida. it seems just ok. really over priced for what the bike comes with. in my opinion one of the best things about owning the bikes i have owned is the work that i have put into them. im not judging at all, but i cant see how i could have a real connection with a bike that i pulled off of a rack.

I think this bike is garish and overpriced at msrp. Then again, though, as a square, utilitarian, almost-30 year old I'm not the target market.

I like it. But, I like a lot of bikes - I'm not a snob. I just think it looks pretty unique. The Bikebiz pictures are even better. I would love that Swift saddle on one of my bikes, too.

Wow, add up the parts and it's starting to look like a good deal. Honestly, I wouldn't ride it because of the uncool factor and somebody somewhere would laugh. I can't tolerate that. :) I just think the idea of a black Fuji with gold componants and a Brooks is pretty cool. I like Obey shirts and the stickers with Andre the Giant are nostalgic. If i ever do see one on the street, I will stop the rider so I can look closer.

Apparently my shop is getting a few of these in cheap (scratch and dent). We also got a few of the SE Premium Brews for cheap.

FWIW, the SEs are probably decent bikes, but the Green/Gold/wood grain bar tape is hella ugly. That, and I have a hunch that the Premium Brew is the Obey frame. I'll update later when we get them in.

My boss picked up one of the SEs. I honestly think it's gonna get stolen/damaged. The gold is all too gaudy for everyday beater use.

His aesthetic looks good sometimes, but I feel like it's very self-serving and not about the client. Everything is to promote himself first and his style... and then you slap the client's name on it with a color scheme. Some of his work actually is nice - he has it in him (I'm a fan of his recent Obama poster) - it's just a shame you see **** like this Obey bike with a $1,000 premium and ugly fatigued t-shirts sold at regular mall stores.

I have the option to buy the fuji obey for $500. It has a rear brake on it and taped hadlebars that don't look like the original. It puts me in a slightly higher riding position which is more comfortable than bending over so far. I know nothing about bikes but I ride year round. In the winter, I use a mtn bike, other times, I use an old motobecane which i love, but both of those have seen better days and are nearing the end of their lives, especially the Motobecane. I didn't think I would like the whole fixed gear thing, but the feel of it is starting to grow on me, minus the fact that my legs are always sore now. Nevertheless, does anyone think it's worth it to buy this bike for my nice weather commuting bike? I'm very careful about what I ride over but is this meant to take the abuse of city roads?

I would buy it for 500 if it still has the brooks on it.

thank you google. it still has brooks saddle, that seat hurt like hell the first couple of times i got on it. i think im getting used to it though. is that make the difference or something. is the rest of the bike just so so?

anyone think its a bad buy at $500 to use as a nice weather bike? i dont ever need to attach anything to it. i always use a backpack and basically will commute to work with it.

I am not a huge fan, but I would take that frameset over the regular Fuji Track anyday.

i had one for like 3 months. i paid $600 for it (the obey factory is out here and i got it off an employee)...its an all right deal @ $600 (if you consider the crankset, doublestraps, pedals, saddle, half decent wheelset)...its actually not a bad bike, and i really did like the aesthetics of it. if you get it, ride the hell out of it and forget whatever the haters think. and the components DO match (theyre all anodized gold, but since its anodized it looks yellowish)

that said, its slightly heavy, the BB is garbage. definitely not a racer.

I park next to this bike every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during art history. I thought it was all custom and that the owner was some sort of tarck superstar until I saw this thread. Now I realize he's just rich.

No way that bike's worth the money though, at least not to me.

i like that bike... the miche components are nice and while i hate the obey guy, the bike looks nice.

The Obey X Fuji bike is a good bike. My friend got one from a local bike shop brand new for $850. For that price its a deal, but if you pay 1400 for it you're an idiot and you deserve to get burned.

All the gold is a bit much, but my friend changed the bars and seat post to black, which toned it way down and IMO made it a cooler bike.

Who cares if his style is self serving? Isn't that more respectable than selling out to some clients frivolous needs? 99 percent of the time, clients know nothing about design. He's carved his own little niche and major clients come to him simply cause they like his aesthetic. Besides he makes plenty of bank off his own brand, clients are just thing on the side, a bonus. He'd probably tell a client to **** off if they wanted him to change his style. That's like a record company telling Led Zeppelin to make nursery rhymes. aint gonna happen.

There's a lot to be said for having you're own style and sticking to it (or even evolving it), rather than changing to whatever a client wants you to do.

I know a place in NC that sells the entire bike for 700.00 and the frame for 300.00. I bought the frame and built up the bike myself. It's a fun ride. And a lugged frame and fork for 300.00 is a great deal no matter what the frame says.

I just thought it was just people wanting to ride nice bikes around the city.

My buddy just picked that bike up, brand new, for right around $600 w/shipping.
