I am trying to put a 9 speed Ultegra cassette on an Aksium wheel (Supposed to be 8,9,10 speed compatible). (Shifters are Tiagra 9 spd)
I carefully threaded all the rings onto the freehub, and when I tried to lock it, it remains loose. It seems as though I am missing a small spacer. (I added all of the spacers that go between the higher gears.)
Is there supposed to be a spacer that goes onto the freehub BEFORE I put on the first cluster?
There is a very very thin washer on the lock ring, but that is too small to go over the freehub anyway.
i am attaching a photo where you can see a tiny bit of freehub sticking out that wont let the lockring tighten onto the cogs.
Thanks.
UPDATE (in case anyone finds this):
As people said here, turns out there is a Mavic specific spacer. Now, it's is about 2mm (maybe a sliver less - don't have my caliper). I searched a lot online for one and they are impossible to find. I did find some 1mm spacers but I wanted the original. I ended up simple calling my local Mavic distributer (you can find them on the main mavic site) and got one. Cost me $2.14. Was worth it.
