If you had a $600 budget for new wheels, weighed in excess of 250 lbs and were 6'7" (although I guess height doesn't really matter) what wheel sets would you be contemplating?
I currently have a set of 2006 Ksyrium SSC SL3s with the carbon front hub (and love them) for one bike and would like to do the same for my other bike. But I don't have the budget for full retail. Haven't been able to successfully win a set of used ones for a reasonable price on the Bay either.
What would you be looking at?

I'm really happy with y hand built Velocity DeepV's, 36 spoke 3X weave.
Durace hubs, strong rims like CXP33 or Deep V

You can score a set of Mavic Askiums for around $200 or less. The quality is good, just made in China, not France as the rest of Mavic's product.

I have a set and I'm 220#. They're much nicer than my 32-spoke OpenPro/Ultegra set.

I have velocity deep vs with 36 on the back and 32 on the front. I like them a lot! No problems since installing them. I was breaking spokes with the stock rims that came on my bike.
I have the Velocity's as well 36 front and back and they have been great. A guy I ride with on occasion has the CXP33's and he really likes them as well. Either set would come in well under $600
