Well today I had my first crash.
Phone started ringing so I checked who it was calling, right at that moment I was one handed, the worst part of the trail came up, My front tire went down into the hole, when went to grab the handle bars, my phone hit the front brake... that finished me off Over the bars I went, Thank god my helment covers my four-head good, its all chewed up, I landed on my phone also, nextels are like bricks thankfully. My back also ate my seat, and my legs ate the pedals and frame lol.

It's all good.

What was you guys' first crash?

When my cell phone rings and I'm riding I won't even answer it even if I was off the bike fixing a flat.

No Im not wanted to any more... I am now I have... Just need the shoes LOL.
I thought it might of been important, and I'm still learning the trail, I forgot that the hardest, roughest part of the trail was next.

Sadly, I broke my camera a few days ago already... no pics.

lets see, My helment protected, sadly the crazy, stupid head =)
the smart one is a little beatup =p

Yea if thats all I had to do to get initiated, then I'm happy lol.
I'm glad my Hydra Pack didn't explode also, because after the seat bashed my back, it landed on it, lol

What was you guys' first crash?

First time on a REAL trail, some guy came up behind me. Not wanting to let him pass, I sped up to about 150% my normal pace. Hit a log payramid and went flying into a rock garden.

The depth of experience ("first crash" & "First time on a REAL trail...about a year ago") on display is simply stunning.

I'm sorry.

Obviously you were sent here to be better me. Excuse me while I change the date at which I began riding.

I have been riding since 1897, and actually invented the mountain bike.

As indescribable as your post is, it can almost be mated with "elitist".

Too many crashes too long ago to remember the first. The worst one was losing my eye in '98.

My bad.

It usually goes in my jersey pocket... except when I thought I had an Important call.
lol.
As for the "you went over 2 months without a crash" statement,
I'm just that good... *cough*

I never hear my phone ringing in my hydration pack, just the wind going by my ears. It annoys people behind me though.

The lesson to be learned here is to just ride faster.

My first crash? I really don't remember. I can tell you that it wasn't on a mountain bike, but probably a 20" Huffy. My first crash on an mtb was the first one I ever got, which was some cheap department store piece of crap about 18 years ago. I had never ridden a bike with front hand brakes, so I went down a steep embankment and immediately locked the front brakes. The next thing I know I'm being thrown to the ground and a 40 pound bike is hitting me in the back and head. They may have just been steel caliper brakes, but that was all it took.

First crash, was first attempt to ride without training wheels.

My phone is on vibrate in my bag, i'll check it every couple of times. Unless someonee important calls or texts, i leave it til i get home.

First crash was funny, leading a pack of four down my first ever downhill run, landed a jump skewiff and faceplanted a berm. No idea why they said for me to lead...........

On, my first crash i was going down a hill at full speed when i hit an enormous spider web, so i threw on the brakes and completely inexperienced, i grabbed for the front brake shooting me about 20 feet off my bike in an endo and rolled the rest of the way down the hill :( i was like 12 so i got right up no breaks, a few scratches, and a broken derailleur hanger.

Heh, I usually think in terms of "my first crash of this ride" as opposed to "my first crash ever"

I can't wait for the "first crash due to clipless pedals" post from Cheeto.

Problems with clipless are completely over exagerated, especially with shimano clipless pedals which have an easier exit than egg beaters, i do endos all the time, much more than any other crash, and have never had a problem with my pedals releasing too late.

My first crash was pretty dull, misjudged a jump over a log (went to do the old push down on the front, the yank up and over the log), ended up hitting the log with the suspension already fully compressed. Ooff, over the handlebars.

My favorite crash: I went over the bars, unclipped, and landed on two feet, gymnast style. The bike went tumbling down the hill (sadly breaking the deraileur hangar).

Hey cheeto

unless you are a doctor on call, turn the phone off or leave it in the car.

Hey there, guy, no need to lecture me on clipless. Been riding them for years. It was merely a comment directed at the fact that Cheeto posts about everything and anything. Due to the learning curve with clipless, he's bound to have at least one fall that is partially due to an inability to get out of the pedals in time.

P.S. If you're endoing all the time, try distributing your weight a little better.

I answer my phone while I'm riding all the time. It's usually someone who got seperated from the group,
wanting to know which turn we took.

Junkyard My shimano m520's should be in soon. I'll be sure to post when I get my first clipless crash, just for you.
In fact I'll dedicate the post to you, just because I like to start up conversation.

first ever crash was actually on my BMX. But this was my first MTB real crash

BUT IS THE SEAT POST OKAY?!

Is it?!

Believe it or not, Thats the first part I checked, after all it had a some landing... MY BACK!
The next thing I checked was my rims and derails.
Rims are a little out of true, but nothing major.
My derail. started shifting by its self after that incident.... eh... lovely.
Taking it to the shop for my tune up before the race.

I quit taking my 'phone' on rides - - battery's too heavy, no place to mount my whip antenna and who needs 40 channels when you're riding anyway?

At least you would have service wherever you went, unlike my cell phone.
