I was driving down to the beach last night. The route I take from my place goes through a seedy part of town. There was a section of roadway blocked off with police tape. When I made the turn for the detour I saw what happened. A bicycle rider was lying in the middle of the road under a sheet next to a mangled bike. It easy to CSI this accident. The guy on the bike rode out in front of the car and was hit. In this neighborhood bicycle riders are more than likely 'nighttime couriers' He was probably hustling off to make a 'delivery' didnt look and was......

Look both ways before crossing. Poor fellow.
What about the blame of the driver? Are you sure the driver didn't just ram the guy and knock him off his bike? Was the driver impaired? Did the driver see the cyclist? Was the cyclist wearing clothing with reflective tape or something along those lines? Was it too dark for the driver to see the cyclist?
I'd be interested to know the full story.

I too would like to know exactly what happened before apportioning blame. There seems to be a "blame the cyclist" culture in most of these incidents -- something I have no intention of doing before I know the facts.
Let us not blame either one. Neither the cyclist nor the driver. It is obvious that Miamijim wasn't there and doesn’t know what had truly happened, and it would be unwise to make any conclusions without the right facts. ;)
I feel sorry for the cyclist though. :(

Would this story (http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/local/7055592.htm) pertain to what you saw?
KILLED BY VEHICLE
A man riding a silver and blue bicycle across Northeast Second Avenue was killed Sunday night when he was struck by a vehicle, Miami police said.
Traffic homicide detectives were still investigating the scene after the 8:30 p.m. accident, said Delrish Moss, a department spokesman.
Moss said the victim was riding eastbound across the avenue between 77th and 78th streets when he was struck by a northbound Toyota Camry. The driver had not been charged as of late Sunday night, he added.
''It's still under investigation, but it's likely that they never saw him,'' Moss said. ``Witnesses are saying there was no speeding and that is consistent with the evidence.''
The victim, in his 20s or early 30s, had no identification and Moss said police would try to identify him through fingerprints or dental records. But anyone with information is asked to call 305-579-6600.

Thats the one.......
It was actually easy to figure out because the car and bike were next to each other. It was between blocks, not at and intersection....and 'real' cyclists dont ride in that area at night......the drug runner was taking a short cut..
I'm not laying the blame on the cyclist without looking into it....on my way home I saw onw almost get hit first hand. The driver was turning right on red while the cyclist was crossing the interesection. No lights on the bike. Biker was real lucky.
