Road Cycling - How much is something like this worth

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey, Ive got a quick question for those who have sold their old bikes before. I have a 1999 Klein Quantum, 56 cm, Blue, all RX100 Components with the STI shifters. The problem with the bike is that, the derraileur hanger snapped, and on Kleins they dont make replaceable ones. The rear derraileur could be attacked with a hanger on the QR, which works fine. The bike however has been maintained by a mechanic and has only been ridden a few hundred miles (less than 400). The wheels are SUN rims on RX100 hubs, its an 8 speed, not a bit of rust on it, I really want to sell it to buy either a guitar or IPOD and am looking to get a decent price. I know the build kit is worth a bit, and the frame isnt beyond use, the bike rode fine with the hanger on the QR(as bikes 20 years ago were like that), however I have a new Bianchi SL Lite and this bike basically doesnt get ridden. The components are mediocre in general, comprable to 105(plus or minus, maybe Tiagra, but this isnt ask bad in terms of durability as Tiagra nor weight). I will ask my boss at the bike shop as hes been in the business for 40 years, but I thought I'd get other people's opinions.
Thanks
Byron
New bikes lose value about like American cars or mobile homes except for a very few mostly high end types, which still devalue but a bit more slowly.
Ballpark guess for your bike, in excellent no damage state would be no more than fity percent of original price and probably a bit less. As is I would guess closer to 25%. Basically it will be worth what someone is willing to pay. If you follow Ebay at all you can see that similar items offered at different times can get wildly different prices. There was a 'mint' Peugeot '50s era bike that sold for $1600 about two yrs ago (pix looked nice), so it will depend on how many interested customers you can find. There is no 'blue book'/ Steve
Steve, there is a blue book on bikes now. I was at a bike shop and saw one. I was amazed, I did not know such a thing existed. I still find it hard to believe and I saw the silly thing. It gave the popular brands and models and years and their values. I suppose that would be a starting point.
Of course, as you suggested, checking similar bikes on E Bay (you know similar Kleins from the same time period - same year, year older, year newer) should give you a good idea of what to ask for.
