i just got a used front brake and found out it is missing the cable clamp. i am using a couple of washers but it would be nice to put the real thing there especially since it is the emergency brake on my fixie. is there some used parts company that i could find this at on the net?

Usually not. The cable clamp? Not exactly sure what you mean by that.

You won't find used bike parts online.

Go to your LBS, they will have the parts.

Surely it would be easier to go through a local bike shop, however, not all of them carry older parts for bikes. You can also try this website:

http://www.thethirdhand.com/

for parts and stuff...

Just go to your local LBS........I bet they've got a few of them just laying around in their junk drawer. Now, if you are a regular customer in good standing order, it's free!.......gauranteed!

thanks for the replys... but of coarse i already tried the bike shops around here. i loked through a big box of old brakes and parts. but none of the parts i found would fit. the part that i mean is - you know how the cable is tightened down inbetween two pieces of metal which have a groove specifically for a cable to go in? well the outer piece of metal is lost. is is a special little square shaped clamp with a cable groove. i found a million of them in the parts box but brake companies like to make them all different sizes. nothing worked right. so now im just using a couple washers, which is functional but not the best.

hmm, I lost the smae part on my brakes, and my LBS just gave me another one from an old junk box. Bummer that your LBS doesn't have anything like it. You say its for a fixie? what'd you do with the other brake? mebbe you could cannibleize that other brake.

pinch bolt

Go to your local second hand store and buy one of their bikes for $5 and take the caliper off it. Eye it up first for the proper reach. Your LBS probably has one.
