Bicycle Mechanics - What kind of chain for my 7 speed?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
The crank says "SG narrow chain". Will any 8 speed chain work?

Yes. Sachs (sedis) chains are std issue.

Shimano 7/8 will work as well.
HG 50 or IG 51 would work.

The Sachs/Sedis chains might be easier to locate as SRAM chains, and work great (i.e. PC-58 for 6-7-8sp.). The Powerlink that comes with them also makes it really easy to remove and reinstall for regular cleaning and maintenance. Have them on both road bike and commuter. Happy riding :) !
Yeah I have a PC-89 on my MTB and a Dura-Ace with a powerlink on my road bike. I ordered a PC-58 Monday for the commuter.
