Well my night didnt go quite like Iro's did. I made a few rookie mistakes, didn't know where the start was, didn't recognize attacks until it was too late, so on and so on.:p But overall I had a great time. You could never explain to a person the exiliration felt when you ride in large group like that, moving at that speed. Man, if I could bottle that feeling I would be a rich man.
See you next week!:D
You suck. :p
Meaning that I can't ride and you can.
Perhaps someday I will find my [_ _ lls] and give racing a try.
Good job. :)

Good job on getting out there. The adrenaline rush sounds like the best part.
I applied for health insurance last Friday, should be approved late this week or early next week and be at Meridian shortly thereafter. Should be great sprint/ interval work.

Ask your wife if you can have em back? :P

Were you out there last night Pwnt? What kit were you in? I was in Echelon Spokes and Slopes' kit (red and white) on a black and yellow Scott. It was a pretty hard night, that wind out of the south , southwest, and/or west (sometimes all three at the same time!) was pretty interesting. That makes tactical positioning very important. If you noticed as the group went around the right hand corner after the fast downhill everyone hugged the left side trying to keep someone to their right side to block the wind...that's pretty classic behavior in that situation. It definitely put me deep into my pain cave a couple of times. I was able to hang w/ the middle group all night, but the really fast guys went off the front and said bye-bye to us ordinary mortals. It was definitely a night where you had to move around constantly to stay out of the shifting wind. There was also more traffic out than normal and we had to stop a few too many times.
I was the guy in the back! :D
I am on a gray Morgul Bismark (no decals). Last night I was in all black (no kit) with a gray mtb helmet on. Just look for the "fred"iest guy out there and say Kevin? Its probably me! :(
It was a frustrating night. I keep getting to my lactic threshold very quickly on the ups, and felt like I had no legs at all. I felt great everywhere else so I don't know what the heck! Everyone I talk to says I need to do even more hill intervals and that being 5'09" at 205 lbs isn't helping me up the hills either. :(

Ah, ok, I think I saw you. I should've said hi but was busy coughing up a lung or two! I'll try to pick you out next time.
It was a hard night. My legs were tired from the Koppenberg race on Sunday...though that is just excuse as it didn't seem to affect others.
Don't be too frustrated, for me it took riding w/ a much more experienced teammate to learn where to sit in the pack.

I love to read these indepth reports.
Keep at it, I am sure it will get easier, at least thats what I have been told, I wouldn't know, I'm not out there.
I do wave at the BusStop ride as we cross paths on Tuesday nights up North here.
Given any thought to those Road Races with the newb categories?

Don't forget that the Dead Dog Classic has a citizens category for the RR. 28 June up in Laramie. 20 miles and 1000 ft of climbing. Not many citizens ride it though. If you want to try the cat 4 or cat 4 35+ it is a lot harder 54 miles and 4100 ft of climbing. Lots more info at www.deaddogclassic.com . 2008 race bible not online yet - awaiting ACA approval.

Anything to take the attention away from that Fred in the mountain bike helmet :D
Ouch!
By the way, I won't be there tonight. No one to watch the kids. I will try to make it to the thursday one. If it's not snowing!

Did Meridian again this evening. It was my 3rd time out. These last 2 times were lots harder than the first time I went when I didn't get dropped. The second time out I got dropped twice. Once because I got stuck behind a group of about 10 riders that had no interest in staying with the pack. The other time I took a massive pull to bridge the group back to the leading riders and then I blew up :)
Today I stayed on for about 4 laps then cut out because I was getting calf cramps and I'm on 10 days in of row of physical activity ( I also play soccer ). I was planning on only doing about 35 - 40 minutes anyways and then taking it easy the rest of this evening and week ( race on Sunday ).
Now to the reason for my post this evening. I made an interesting observation tonight. I tried staying in the front 1/3 of the pack today. I noticed that the last 2 laps I did I kept getting stuck pulling to bridge to stay with the stronger guys. Unfortunately I'm not strong enough to do that more than once :) Whenever I got stuck up there I would pull for about 30 - 45 seconds then see if anyone else wanted to take a turn. No takers. It was like I was getting roped into doing it. I don't mind cause I want to get stronger but then everyone would just wiz right by. I'm certainly lacking in the 'tactics' arena.
I felt like I was the only guy out there tonight not wearing a team 'kit'. Some chatter in the pack about trying to stay away from new people. Cycling is definitely a tough sport to break into and meet people. Tonight that was especially noticeable. I got 2 nasty looks and was yelled at once when touching others. Once was my fault because I've never ridden in a pack with this much wind. The other time a guy tried taking my space and then got pissed at me even though my front wheel was in front of his.
Not whining, just making observations. I'll keep showing up because it's such a great a workout on multiple levels!
I love it! I am totally hooked. It sucks that I'm not good at it yet, but I'm still going! It absolutely killed me that I couldn't make it last night. When the wife got home I got out and did some hill intervals in my area, luckily I have some steep ones in my area. But it just wasn't the same. :(
Like I said though, I plan being there thursday if there is no snow.
Did anyone make to Merdian on thursday? It was a very small group, maybe 20-25 guys. Broke apart really early too. Not as much fun as past rides.

Has the training bible helped any or did it cause blood to shoot out of your ears like with me?
I lost interest after the third chapter. Why I thought a non racer such as me would find it interesting is beyond me.
Honestly, and I hate to admit it, I have even cracked it open. Too busy riding. Funny huh? Like have the manual to fix the car but you're too busy fixing the car to read the manual.

I've been on the trainer this week. Did manage to ride 2.5 miles with my son yesterday. Just don't tell my doc. :p

No update? I live for this stuff. It was glorious up here in Longmont/Lyons, caught a tailwind on 66 heading back to Longmont and avg 23mph for the last half of my ride.

And none this week? I am two hours out from humiliating myself at the Lyons-Boulder TT series, luckily Minny Phinney doesn't take off until a half hour after me so I should be able to beat him to the line, it will be close, but I can get off the course before the young punk flys by.
Best of luck to you. I'm sure you'll do fine!

It depends on how you define "fine" I guess. Yes, I still have my health, pride, lost that years ago when I bought my bike. Luckily they let young boys and older ladies do this so I wasn't last. Even beat someone in my age group, by one second, and yes, "Every Second Counts." The rainbow jersey was a no-show, must have heard I was riding.
So Pwnt, are you still doing these Tuesday rides?
