Planning a trip to the Springfield/Eugene area in Oregon and was hoping someone can recommend a bike shop in the area that rents road bikes on a weekly basis. Any info would be appreciated.

Try "Paul's Bicycle Way of Life" 541-344-4150. They are the only shop I know of with rentals, most are cruisers, but I think they may have a couple of road bikes, call them to see.

I don't think anyone else rents bikes, not that much demand in this small town, if Paul's can't help call Hutch's Bike Shop and they may know of other rentals, 541-345-7521.

Thanks Shifty, I appreciate the response. I'll give them a call, otherwise I may just have to ship my bike, unfortunately.

You could try REI, also in Eugene. I personally avoid Paul's after he screwed me over by forcing me to take a too-small frame in exchange for a wonderful Mercian that one of his techs cracked the seatlug on. His employees seem more or less OK, but the owner is a jackass.

Eugene's Center for Appropriate Transport is a non-profit bicycle co-op project that, among other things, holds repair workshops, operates a messenger service, and builds cargo bicycles. Incidentally, the Eugene Bicycle Works (the workshop area of the organization) rents all kinds of bicycles. They are open 12-6 Tuesday through Saturday and are located at 1st ave. and Washington.

Yes, do support CAT. Thay've done alot of good things for bicycling and teenage kids. Contact them at www.catoregon.org Jan hasn't been feeling well lately, so wish him well.

When are you coming, and what size of bike are you looking for? Certainly there could be someone here who could help out... ;)
