It's 4:25 here as I type this. In December the sun would have gone down 10 minutes ago. But with Daylight Savings Time now in effect, it is over 2.5 hours until sunset. At last. While it is still a bit cold (32 right now ... going down to 8 by tomorrow morning), it feels like winter is finally about to be pushed aside. Supposed to be 41 on Tues, 42 on Wed.

I don't know... I'll kind of miss riding at night. There's something so peaceful about it, I find.
But then, I'm a little weird... in a good way, of course
5:40pm and still plenty of sunlight. Yes! A taste of things to come.

I hate to be different (well, not really) but I hate this.
I start work at 05:00 AM on the day shift at the refinery.
The sun just started coming up a little before Seven and now.....
it seems to stay dark forever. Argggg :mad::mad:
The timeshift in the evening doesn't override the dark mornings
for me.

system coming this weekend. YIPEE
Yes, when I start my 3-season commuting, very soon (!!!), it will be very very dark in the morning on the days when my shift starts at 7am.

Still lots of rain here in SE PA forecast, but suppose to be 4 days of dry and highs in mid 40's to 51 till Friday. Was 60 degrees this past Saturday. Saw some sun and tried to ride between the steady rain of morning and coming thunder storm. I didn't make it. Should get 2 rides in this week. Thats one more then entire month of February. And sun shining till 7 pm is great. And my resident ground hog is awake. Must be spring for sure.

In Arizona we don't mess with the clock or the sun and do not try to fool ourselves with 'daylight savings time'. Do you really gain/loose one hour of time? Heck we actually gained an extra on Feb. 29; what more do you want?!
Up to 76 degrees this afternoon . . . not bad, spring must be on the way!
Going up to only 110 in July.

As far as I'm concerned, I do gain an our of daylight. I give up one hour of morning daylight, which I don't even see as I'm asleep, and I gain an hour of daylight after work. A truly excellent trade!

And it is a real pain to go back east from AZ which I do often with the 3 hour time difference due to our DST. Anyway there was some big study done and DST does not save any energy. Maybe AZ has it right.

The "big" study was only conducted on data from Indiana. The authors themselves stated that it was not conclusive for the nation as a whole, as different climates may yield different results.

The cool thing is that being on the far Western end of EST time and being on the Lake is that you can nearly mow your yard here in the summer at 10:00 at night.

I'm at work at 7:00 am and could care less if it's dark outside. I want the extra daylight after work for riding and other activities.

Because DST is the right thing to do.
In mid-June in Wisconsin, on Standard Time sunrise would be at 4:18 AM and sunset at 7:39 PM. With DST it changes to sunrise at 5:18 AM with sunset at 8:39 PM. DST makes much more sense. Far more people make use of having sunlight at 8 PM than at 4:30 AM.
Besides Standard Time is based off of Greenwich, England time. And guess what they do in Greenwich in the summer? They use the British version of DST to change the clocks by an hour.

I understand why some people don't like it, but I think it is great. My bike club can finally start back having weekday rides after work hours. In fact, we are riding MTBs today at 5:30.

Only time in my life I ever found DST to be a nuisance, in any way at all, was when our kids were still really young. During winter, if we were sick of their noise, we could easy enough say "bed time" and they didn't know any different. It was already dark. But summertime and DST stuffed that up good and proper!
Apart from that, DST just plain makes sense. Better sense, of course, if you live somewhere around the latitudes where it has best impact, but there ya go!
Coming close to the time when it stops here, rather than starts. I'll be needing to fit the afternoon rides in a bit earlier.

Hurrah for early DST!!! :) Hermes and I got out for a nice 1:15 ride after work yesterday - temps in the low 60's and dusk at 7:15 PM. It felt fantastic!

I don't like cold and I don't like rain. So I shelled out big $$$ to get wind-resistant water resistant bib tights. Since delievery we've had nothing but great weather.
Just sayin'.

DST makes no sense at all. It may be reasonable and desirable to do things earlier in the solar day in the summer, but there's no need to change the clocks in order to accomplish that. Changing the clocks has no effect on the sun. If you want to do things earlier with respect to the sun, just do them earlier.

Like we can all get off of work earlier?

I would argue that since the settings on the clock have no effect on the sun or on the number of hours of daylight, then it makes even more sense to set the clock in a way that benefits the most people.
To do anything else would be illogical and dysfunctional.

Yeah, I'm sure all our employers will be happy to let us take off work an hour earlier.
Some of us still have to work for a living, you know.
