Cyclocross - Looking for tires for my mtb for this weekends cyclo race

Just learned about cyclocross races in my area, and would like to try it out. I went to last weeks event and the begginer class had many riding mountain bikes, I ride a lot, but Im new to this style of riding. Is there a good tire that is narrow, with traction that would work well for my 26 inch rims? thanks,

the hutchinson cross comp and the conti cross co9untry are good choices. the former is 1.3" and the latter 1.5"

I'm using the continental cross country pro. I'm really happy with them after 3 races. Everybody at the races that I've talked to with a mountain bike has also told me how much they love these tires. They're not that expensive either.

Yeah, I went with the conti's , should be here for the next weekend race, not this weekend. Thanks for the guy who hooked me up with that tire website, saved a few bucks.

So I went with the 1.5 conti's, but I cant believe how heavy they are. I pulled them out of the box, and I was sure they were as heavy as my nokian spiked tires I use for winter commuting! My 1.9 treads that I use for regular trail riding are much lighter? Whats up with that, are they compensating for the narrow design to help avoid pinch flats?

You must of got the wire bead vesion instead of kevlar?

Thats true, I did go with bead, however none of my other mtb tires are kevlar, and the conti's out weigh them all? Is it the low profile that requires these to be thicker flats?
