Hi folks,
After nearly a year of full-time bike commuting, my waist went from 36 to 35, but I'm still 195 lbs. Then, when I have my school books along, I'm probably putting 220-plus on that seatpost. So what do you say? Can I be a junior Clyde?

Straight up, you're welcome here, no problem at all. ;) I bet you're 6 feet tall, right? That's the other aspect of Clydedom, and if nothing else, we can put you in lifts for the heels ;)

My opinion is that Clydesdaleism is actually a state of mind. Even when I get below 200 pounds, there's a 240 pounder in me fighting to get out. If he can post here, so can you.

The number is 200.

The number is 200.
I'm sure that by the time I'm dressed and have all my essentials packed, I'll tip the scales at 200. That's on a 5'10" frame, btw, hope that doesn't DQ me.

Thanks! Now how do I keep my seatpost from sliding down while I ride?

Carbon or metal frame? Carbon Seatpost? or aluminium?

the only way is to clamp the living s*** out of it. thats what i do anyway.
edit: oh yeah, what tom says makes a huge difference. only follow my advice if its a metal frame and a metal seat post. otherwise you may break your frame or seat post.

One is steel frame/alloy post; the other is steel/steel. More torque is better, it seems. We can do that.

I know! Then there are those jobs you twist tight and clamp? AAAAAUUUUGH!
I've got a Torker Tristar on loan during the paint work on Tempest and it goes back down.
I haven't been on a bike with handlebars like that since my brother and I would burn the slicks of our sisters' banana seat bikes!

mstrpete, on behalf of all the other PNW clydes/athenas here, I welcome you even if you don't fit the strict definition of Clyde.
Always happy to have another motivated person, you know?

Hey, weight fluctuates, but the good people around here don't. I'm 5'9 and trying desperately to get below 190. I haven't been a clyde for a couple of years and I still hang around. (Though I have been told people on this forum would give up parts of their bodies to be as "light" as me.)
One thing I truly get from this forum is "real" training advice. The lovely boys and girls over at the Road or Race forums get WAY more intense than most of us with families and jobs.
