not really. A couple of hardcore goof balls have been riding all winter. But, the first ride for me! The roads on the flats are open.

Snow's in the forecast for tomorrow though.

Really, right now, it is okay. Those windrows line all of the roads, taller on the windward direction, so the icy wind is kind of blocked, at least on the east-west roads. It was 28 degrees farenheit at noon today when I could ride. But, like I said, more freakin' snow is forcast for the next two days.

Oh, and y'all have us beat hands down, at least here on the flats. We have about 30 inches really.

In NH, they would never think of piling the snow higher on the windward side. Never!

But what part of Idaho? It's a good sized state!

The official snow record in Concord is 110 inches (the NH Capital at 300 feet above sea level), and is the highest since 1870s, and only 12 inces shy of the all time record going back to 1830s. We're at 1200 feet and usually recieve 50-100% more snow than Concord, which is only about 30 miles southeast.

For whatever snowpack has melted in the polar regions, it has ALL ended up in my yard! I'd like a little global warming any day now.

But, go an hour or so away where the elevation is 4,000 feet ASL or more and temperatures are cooler. There is still quite a bit of snow on the ground, although the main roadways are dry and clean now. Sideroads may or may not be free of snow, depending on traffic, maintenance, and sun exposure hindered by terrain or trees. Rain here is snow there.

Around Valley County the law enforcement had to CLOSE 6,000 acres(?) to public use because overzealous souls were zipping around a mud purgatory and they got tired of freeing frenetic four-wheelers!

I went for the ride. Mostly along the shoulder of a state road they use only salt on (no sand). But then took a side trip a couple of miles down the MUP, which is only used by snow mobiles this time of year. Took this picture in one of the old RR cuts. Pedaling through loose snow is hardwork. :mad:

Later on I had my first bike spill since I was 16. :eek: The studded tires did not hold on a patch of ice.

I live in eastern Idaho, which, (as is typical) has seen a worse winter than, ahem, western Idaho. Soon, though, we'll get revenge, as western Idaho bakes in the summer.

This has actually been the worst winter here locally in about 10 years. The snow at the cabin, on the roof, is deeper than I am tall. Now that it is finally settling I'm looking forward to a few good backcountry trips; been too slidey to go out. But I'm really looking forward to riding my bike again, after soooooo long hanging at the Y. woohoo!

Oh! The eagle is an Igor. Igor was the name of the eagle on Sheldon Brown's helmet.
