Mountain Biking - Does anyone race in cyclocross...with their mountain bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I went to a cyclocross race last weekend, and there are lots in my neck of the woods. Anyways, there were a bunch of racers using mountain bikes, and did really well. It looks like a lot of fun, and fast. Im thinking about going out this weekend and giving it a try in the beginer class. Any feedback, and should I get the skinny 1.5/1.3 tires, I do have mythos 1.9 right now, maybe that will work.

I would go 1.5's for the lower resistance. I have thought of doing a couple of cross races myself on the mountain bike. I think you cannot have bar ends but as far as I know that is the only restriction.

You might want to check the restrictions on tires too.. I know loads that race with their Mountain Bike, but some rules stat you have to have a 1.8" tire or less. Just check with the organization first... Bar-ends are a no-no, but most organizers really don't care... as long as you show up and ride and no one complains, you're golden.
