Brooks England does not respond to emails requesting information on product nor does it respond to emails regarding information on installing / adjusting a bloody Brooks Flyer after it was purchased from a LBS.
Be advised that the Brooks Saddle will probably require another seat post because it does not have the adjustment range of more modern saddles. It will sit approximately 25mm forward of your previous saddle when the Brooks is pushed as far back as possible. This may or may not cause you problems. A lot depends on you and the fit of your bike. I have the proper sized frame and if you are fitting according to the "Knee over the Pedal" theory then a Brooks may give you problems.
 Do not believe all of the hype!

That is my take on Brooks so far.

Wagathon:
Don't know you or your posting style, but your location states you are from "The Village". Do you hold the position of "Village Idiot"?
Just got a Brooks B17 Narrow, yes I changed from a zero setback seatpost to an offset setpost, no problem. Love my Brooks.
I can always spot'm
Village Idiots are easy to identify as well.
What don't you understand about adjusting a saddle? It's a pretty straightforward endeavor.
Brooks England does not respond to emails...
Sorry for not answering earlier, but I am at home with a flue. Your issue with the seatpost is not new and your suggestion of making this information available on the website is a good idea.
A cheaper solution to changing your seatpost is to buy a simple seat pillar and a Brooks clamp. The clamp should give you some room to adjust the saddle a bit more to the back. You might want to try with your LBS.
Andrea
Thanks Andrea. I responded to your email. Additionally, thank you for publicly confirming that the "Brooks Adjustment" seat post issue is not new. I am not going with a "Pillar" and "Brooks Clamp" just so I can ride a Brooks Saddle. My Brooks love affair has ended quite quickly.
Solution - start looking for another saddle. Brooks is not a good choice for this rider.
Ziemas
What is it I don't understand? I don't understand a presumptuous response such as yours.
If you knew a bloody thing you would know, as I do now, that Brooks Saddles have limited travel with today's style two bolt, 25mm setback, seat posts compared to their modern counterpart.
So, tell me how do you adjust past the point where the rails stop. There isn't anything left to adjust.
I don't understand why you feel the need to be a cretin.
Maybe if your frame fit you better you wouldn't have this problem. But it still wouldn't help with your nasty attitude.
My frame fits me fine. I apologize for being cretin, point well made. My response to you was not civil and was frankly uncalled for.
I am quite irritated at myself for spending US $ 145.00 on Brooks products only to be faced with either spending more for a seat post or buying another saddle all together.
Thanks for your second response. Please accept my apology for my inappropriate reply.
What a ******.
Great vocabulary!

Thanks. Apology accepted.
One thing; in the future I think you'll get better responses to your problems if you don't use so much vitriol in the OP. Very few people take those kinds of posts seriously.
Ziemas:
I appreciate our perspective, but I am truly disappointed at the complete and total failure of Brooks England to respond to any inquiries through their own web site and subsequent email.
Vitriol? Yes / No
They didn't respond so what is left to do, but poke fun at their touted years of production and business. All of that means little if they are unresponsive.
I consider myself to have joined the Brooks Saddle Cult only to discover that I ddi not fit and must go through re-programming. LOL!
I don't mean this as anything less than a compliment: Your vocabulary is far better than most that I see in posts on these threads - mine included. Don't change a thing.
I take your constructive criticism and say thanks. I would hate to be described as sanctimonious, self righteous and solipsistic.
As you can see from post #8 there was a very good reason why they didn't respond; the man who does so was at home ill with flu. It wasn't as if they were ignoring you out of spite or lack of interest in your queries.
Most folks don't buy a Brooks on a whim, they buy them out of necessity. I'm not understanding why you wouldn't want to make it work on your bike, even if you need a new pillar. What was your reason for buying a Brooks in the first place?
Lets see you could have reseached the product better before purchase or examined it after purchase and returned it because you didn't want to change your post. Seems simple enough to me.

In all fairness, the rail limitations of some of the Brooks saddles isn't exactly a new issue and has been discussed here in BF and in other forums numerous times. Perhaps you might consider another lesson learned from your experience...do your homework before dropping $145 on a saddle. Had you done that, you might have gotten a Swift, which has more fore/aft range. You would have also found that places like Wallingford offer a six month return policy.

^^^ Don't worry about this. Wagathon just makes stuff up sometimes. "Cribbed notes from the random musings of a psychologist?" Yeah right.
Chipcom
Thanks for your input. I will take a look at the Swift.

Andrea:
I responded to your email and discussed the fact that hopefully you are not the only person at Brooks who can respond to a prospective customers' emails. It is obvious that you personally are committed to providing excellent customer service.
Thanks for your reply via email. Hope you get to feeling better.

Since the OP and Brooks are on the road to mediation, I'm closing this thread. :)
