I think I am totally gone as it comes to getting my bike to work. Now I have a new, Shimano Tiagra (4303) shifter on the left side, and the near antique Shimano RSX shifter on the right side. I never could get the old RSX left to shift my new 105 front derailer without chain rub in most gears. The downtube shifter was OK, but as good as a DT shifter could get. So I up and got a Tiagra to get the desired trim function.
Now, the bike looks goofier then before. One day I may buy a new bike.

I don't know, if I was going to change one side, I would change out both, to keep a matched set, put the working RSX shifters into the spare parts bin, until you need a spare shifter.

I am cheap, so I would probably do the same thing as you and only buy the one, until I either had the money to upgrade the other, or there was actually a need to upgrade.

You probably just need to tweak your barrel adjusters a bit. Have you taken a Park Tool class yet? I would highly reccomend it. Looks like you have the gel pads under the handle bar tape. I just installed that on my Klein. It rocks.

It shifts perfectly. I have to use the RSX as I only have 7-speed wheels. That left RSX brifter hasn't been right since I crashed and crashed into a ditch.

I didn't think they sold them separately, I thought they sold them in sets, as for the OP, just make sure next time you crash, land on the other side, and trash the other one, then you can have a matched set again:D
An old bike is sometimes like an old car, I had one car that looked like crap, but ran beautifully. I could leave it in the worst part of town without worrying about it. While the fancy pants one parked next to it would be gone faster then you could say stolen Honda.......
Why would you want to drop a bike with a strong personality?
( goofy - is just the wrong perspective). Who else has a such a bike?
