You need to reduce the files size with some type of photo editing software.

What is anysize? How large is your photo?

There are dozens of free applications that will allow you to size your photo, or save them for web use.

I just wanted to post a pic of a real bicycle

Joe Gardner

Your attachment can be up to 100k in size. That is more then big enough for most images. Most attachments are in the 30k size. Yours is 400k?! Look at the forum logo, that is 5k in size... you really need to shrink that image

I sent you a emal threw yahoo..I enclosed the pic

You can use Paint Shop pro to edit it.. another free app is infranview http://www.irfanview.com it has a option to shrink your picture down to a specified size.

Joe has to limit the size of pic's can you imagine if he did not? Let's say it was 400k, so 5 pics posted a day not to heavy a load so that is 2 megs a day.. 14 megs a week.. 60 megs a month 700 megs a year and this forum has been around for quite a few years. And joe has to pay for the bandwidth (bigger pictures more bandwidth), more storage so higher cost and I believe I'm correct in saying Vbulletin (software that runs forums) stores pictures actualy in the database itself so that means alot larger database to deal with. So ALOT of drawbacks, and only saves us users a couple seconds to shrink down the pic or host it somewhere else. And keeps annoyance down for other uers, alot of people are still on dial up, do you know how long it takes to show a 400k pic on dialup?

Your max pic size Is 102400 so I blew your max by only 29952 that ain't too bad I figure I got It down a lot?My pic size Is 132352

Joe Gardner

Try to get it under 50k.

Kev, I know have the option to store attachments in a directory, not the database. I have not yet made the change, but plan on doing so soon.

The only way I could cut the pic down any more would be to stand back a bit more when i take the pic..but I can't cut down on the download any more with this computer?I sure didn't blow It by much did I?
according to what I idicated?

10-21-03, 06:28 PM
Thanks for doing that..It would of been better If I could of done It I don't know what else I could do...Do you?Would they post If I had more distance from the bike..or Is it a differant Issue like resolution?I can't do any better

Maybe JOE is going to allow a bigger max..I think he indicated such.I got a feeling It's because I haven't donated yet..If that Is the problem then I want to hear It from Joe?

Joe Gardner
10-21-03, 06:55 PM
Nope, I have no plans on increasing the attachment size. 100K for images is more then enough space. Donating member or not.

chip
10-21-03, 06:56 PM
If Sherpa can fix them up then Joe could of also?I think the problem Is a donation
Isn't It?Cause Sherpa didn't cut into the bicycle itself when he sent It.I'm not that stupid I can clearly see the problem Is one of a donation right Joe?

because thats how big the pic was when i scaled it down the most i could do?

Joe Gardner
10-21-03, 07:09 PM
That is closer to 129K in size. Still 30% larger then acceptable.

Honestly, your picture isnt of the best quality to start off with. There is NO quality loss for web viewing between 100k and 400k in size.

chip
10-21-03, 07:17 PM
Yup I checked It out It's 129K
Well I guess it's back to the drawing
board..My brother is a P.C. specialist
so he'll be coming home around xmas
so i'll check Into what i can do from here?
Thanks for allowing all the posts and such
We all live and learn, see ya later

You don't have to take a smaller picture chip, the programs like paint shop etc.. actualy just cut down the resolution of the picture, not crop it down to be a smaller picture.

Now how do I use It?I don't quite understand can you help?explain

there are two things you can do to reduce file size.

1. shrink the image or
2. reduce resolution/quality(jpg quality).

chip - what kind of camera are you using? A lot of digitals have an option to vary the size and quality of the pictures taken. This would allow you to take a picture and upload it directly to the forum.

My digital camera Is a DSC-2020
I got the resolution a lot lower It's
Great for email now..Eh I'm just
learning anyway..but I know even
with the lowest resolution I can get
they are still out by about 30000
but work great for email thats the
most Important anyway?cause
how many times can you post your
rig on these forums anyway..be honest?
I can understand If your selling something
yes..but then you can aways email directly
anyway..ha ha he he..! ;)

You should also have size setting. If you set that to the lowest, you will have it. Or, view the picture using Microsoft Photo Editor (comes free on most pc's) click on Image/Resize and change the width or height and click ok. Click on File/Save As and save to your C drive. Then post.

Like I said i never blew the max requirment by much
30000 mb..Which Is ideal for email anyway?
It's no big deal anyway..you can only post your rig
once anyway?I'm not going to loose any sleep over It for sure..for sure
