Just in case nobody has posted this here before... something I found on the web; it didn't happen to me. --Rudi

This is what happened to one of my Brompton folding cycles some years ago after I had left it folded on the platform at High Barnet station in London. I strolled down the platform, while waiting for a local train into central London. An intercity express went fast through the station. I did not see it happen but I can only imagine that somehow the speeding train sucked the folded bicycle into its wheels, chewed it up and threw it up 25 yards further down the platform where I found it like this - thinking at first it had been stolen and vandalised. This was the photo I used to claim the bike's insured value. The whole transaction done by phone with the company and presumption of good faith. After being assured I'd get a cheque from the insurer on receipt of a photo of the damage, I immediately went into a cycle shop near Euston and bought another Brompton, having salvaged various parts from the wreck of the old. My bike had been left on the yellow line on the station platform beyond which you shouldn't cross if non-stop trains are to be expected. I will never do that again and can only be grateful that no harm was done to anyone - the platform being empty but for me.

To paraphrase W. C. Fields in "The Bank Dick", the resale value of that bicycle is now virtually nil!

What parts did you manage to salvage???

It looks about 95% trashed.

Bet you were gutted to see it like that. I was gutted yesterday when I got a puncture and had to push the bike through horrible mud to get home.
