View Full Version : Carbon fork suggestions...

I am in the market for an affordable carbon fork for my Specialized CX. Anyone have any suggestions for one that will see both offroad and road use. Thanks for your help.

there really aren't a lot of options for carbon cyclo-cross forks. there's the alpha-q and the new reynolds, which are very pricey, and then there's the wound-up, which is also pricey, but also has some tire-clearance issues... that pretty much leaves you with the winwood. this is pretty decent, but not flashy fork. it's lighter than a steel fork, but not a huge amount lighter. it will damped vibrations and smooth the ride. alu steerer.

i have one on my jake, and it's a significant improvement.

I am looking for a carbon fork too. The Alan has captured my attention, but I need more information. I think it is only available with an integrated headset, and I'm not sure if that's the way to go. Any insight?

you can only use an integrated headset if your bike is designed for an integrated headset. if it is, then you must use an integrated headset, and already have one. the solution is actually quite simple.

Actually, they told me I could use the fork with a standard headset, it just would not be aesthetically pleasing. Any info on the new Reynolds?

IMHO nothing is more aesthetically pleasing than the word "King" above and below my head tube. :D

the ird fork is the winwood fork under a different label. as for headsets, i use an fsa mtb headset...

A friend of mine has a Colnago with a carbon fork and one has an Alan with a carbon fork. Same fork, different logos, at least on the model he has. They have an alumium steerer and crown with carbon legs only. Not that light, but would dampen ride I'm sure. He just got the Alan, so it'll be interesting to see he it is from the Alpha which is on his other bike.

i would go with the q-alpha. i have one on my specialized and it rocks!! there is plenty of tire clearance and it really improves the vibration damping!! i just bought an alan cross bike and i love it too but i think that the q-alpha fork is better!
