Classic & Vintage - Baby needs a new pair of shoes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So, I'm down to cord and need some new rubber for my baby. I already know what brand/model of tire I want, but which color? What say you?

Gotta go with Red,
Black, although grey would be kinda nice.

Not yellow, unless you put lightning bolts on your helmet or blue bar tape and saddle. These mods will unfortunately end your ability to digest lime Gatorade.

And the whole bike also needs to be repainted a different color!

:eek::eek:
I think that Spearmint Green or a Brilliant Cloud White would be a sweet contrast to your Red..And would give it that classic Italian flare...

Red, white, and black would look good on BBM's bike, but Team Quickstep is blue and white... looks like a mislabel and should be Team CSC.
Personally, I'm in my black period.

Intriguing.....
So, where would I find specs on these tires, and where might I find the actual tires? Are they Michelin Pro2 or Continental GP4000 level in performance?

Even though I've never liked colored tires, I have to agree in this case.

First choice- skinwall
Second-Red
Keep it red!
Or I'd go with those Specialized tires too.

Open tubular design (clincher with Mondo tubular construction)
700 x 23c 290 TPI Gossamer Spun Casing
DRT design for low rolling resistance and great cornering
Compound Center: 70a
Compound Shoulder: 60a
Bead: Kevlar
PSI: 115-135 2000
290tpi ??!! Wow, that's some casing. I like my Mondo Pro's really well and they're only 120 tpi.

Zounds!! My Pro 2 Race are 120tpi as well, IIRC. 290 would be a nice ride.
BUT - Out Of Stock. Oh, the humanity!!!!

Black.
Red will get dirty and will inevitably be a little bit off the color of the rest of the bike.
black.
I think the red is a bit over the top. Of course if you had yellow flite and yellow handle bar tape
yellow tires would look fine.

Sorry I was late to the party. My work is blocking all sports related sites because of "March Madness" and somehow Bikeforums.net is considered a sports site. :(
Here you go...

I've been riding Mondo Pro tires for three years. Two words for ya - Bomb Proof! You can buy them from Specialized.com and they are the same or better than Pro2s or GP4000s. Opinions may vary.
As far as being out of stock, my LBS is a Specialized dealer. I can ask them to contact Specialized for an ETA on the tires.
Here's my "fast ride." Please note tires. :D

I came here to say black since there isn't nearly enough black on your bike, but holy crap those Specialized tires made my mouth water. They would go great with my Trek which has an almost identical scheme as your bike. I might have to keep my eyes open for a better deal- $65 (msrp) a pop seems a bit much for something I would be commuting on.
Edit: After seeing the above picture with the giant Specialized logo on the tires I'm going to just say black.

Just realized those tires are tubulars.
Try these:

A little cheaper too.

Quoting (I think) the late Carroll Smith, famous auto racing engineer, "tires should be round and black."

Still... "out of stock". But, 120tpi like the Pro 2's

When I built my bike, I was so sick of blacked out bikes I made a serious effort to avoid black wheels, stems, etc. It looks good all red and shiny silver, to me. :)
I agree - that Specialized logo is a real show-stopper. I can't have that, on an otherwise logo-less bike.

That Palo Alto has been my absolute favorite ever since I caught an intoxicating glimpse of it - simply stunning.
Keep the red, Fred - and lock it up religiously (esp. if I ever actually make it to one of the NorCal rides and we're all taking a break toward the end of the ride and you need to visit the restroom..) - kidding, sorta.. :D

With all the fine bikes here, you picked mine as your favorite?! I'm flattered! Me, I'm lusting after OFG's pink De Rosa. :D
Actually, I almost had my hands on a China Blue Cinelli Super Corsa a while ago. If I had snagged it, the Palo Alto might have become expendable.
BTW - any time you wanna see it in person, drop me a line. I'm always up for a ride.

Darker red then that dull orange-red in the photo. If you have an older set of tires try painting them. It worked for me. And the tires did not fail.

It's true, he is. BBM's so desparate for riding companions that he even rides with me.
And go with black or skinwall. Hey, I helped talked you into the stealth, decal-less look for that beauty, so you know my style sense is impeccible. :D

Yup. It didn't hurt that you said nice things about growing up w/ Varsities, which was my only steed until just recently.

I will need to look this one up.

Thanks - I will take you up on that offer, once two things run their course: 1.) I finally purchased a decent road frame: (Mike) Melton, that I'm building up, and 2.) I fractured my left ankle, so pedaling will need to wait about 6(!) weeks. Uggh.
I noticed the poll has the leading two recommendations tied(!) - who will step up and give the Palo Alto's destiny a swift kick in the rear... tire?
