Coming off a hard tail, it's a tough pick, I'd be happy with almost anything full squish. I like the Specialized, even knowing it's a downgrade from '07. Everyone loves the Rush - well almost everyone. The 6 is what is in my price range. The Rush 5 is VERY nice, and my LBS is saying it's worth the extra $$$ as a longer term investment.

Opinions? Experiences?

I faced the same decision last year and went with the FSR xc. I don't regret it.

You hit on an important point: it seems the '08 FSR xc Comp is much less of a bike (spec. wise) compared to the '07.

I am going to take the LBS up on their generous offer and go with the Rush 5z.

Actually I bought an '06 hold over which was even that much better of a bike. Alot of my buddies ride Rush so I can't knock them. Either bike is more than adequate for XC. Let me know how it works out for you.
