Touring - Florida Keys?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Does anyone know if Bikes are allowed on the US #1 florida keys causeway? This is the road from "True Lies" where they's Jaime Lee Curtis and Tia Carrere are fighting in the Limo and Arnie is in the Helicopter. It looks like a 2-lane road with a good shoulder. Anybody tried it?
I think its also the road Alberto Tomba attempted to pass an impossibly long line of cars on a few years ago with cars coming head on but to answer your question yes I rode it on a 4days tour the 4th of July weekend in 02(you can go back to that time frame in this forum and see my trip report on it).And yes it has a good network of either wide shoulders and/or bike lanes and very scenic views. The stretch from Homestead to Key Largo has frustrating bumps on the shoulder but you can take less travelled and scenic Card Sound Road as that Rt1 stretch is the most dangerous anyway due to speeding cars on the long straightaway. As I did it midsummer with the heat and bugs it ought to be a breeze this time of year.I definately remember 100degree temps in Key Largo after being chased clear across Card Sound Road by mosquitos lol.
When are you looking to attempt this and what type of touring or riding are you talking about?I am looking to start back up some Florida touring myself . I did a 10 day trip from Ft.L. to Gainesville(Fl) last Thanksgiving and am thinking of doing that trip again sometime this winter after a warmup to the Keys.Any other questions I will be glad to answer if i can.
