I picked up a lugged frame Fuji from a thrift store yesterday and was hoping to ID it. The frame has been painted over so I have no idea what it was...although it was definitely red. I'm going to try to strip the paint(carefully) and see if I can get a name.

It's a 12 spd with a 171mm Sugino crankset (double) with a Compe V -FrontD and a Suntour V-GTLuxe #4582 -RearD. The stem and centerpull brakes are Dia-Compe as are the brake levers. It has Nitto Olympiade bars and Sunshine 5345 hubs.

I'm guessing the bike is low end because of the centerpull dia-compe's but I really only wanted the crankset anyway.

The frame is about a 58cm (center to top).

Any help is always appreciated,
PJBAZ

I wouldn't condemn it as loe-end just b/c of the centerpulls. They were standard issue on a pretty wide range of bikes in the 70s. 1970s is where I'd place that bike. My wife had a Fuji 12 speed which sounds pretty similar to yours except hers had DiaCompe sidepulls. It was labelled as a Fuji Supreme" with "12 Speed" decals on the chain stays. A decal that shows "VaLite" tubing would be telling but with a repaint it's probably gone.

I'd say something more along the lines of a midgrade bike but that's a guess.

I heard from several sources that not only are Dia Compe Centerpulls exact duplicates & fully interchangeable parts with Weinmanns but the Dia Compes were forged while the Weinmanns were not. I use both interchangeably. With kool stop pads they are great stoppers! Don

I picked up a very similar sounding Fugi Allegro recently. Mine did have the VaLite tubing decal before its repaint. As I recall the VaLite tubing was a basic cromolly.
