General Cycling Discussion - Thank goodness BF is back!!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Joe,
Thanks for getting BF up and running again. I have been going through withdrawal all week. :(
You ARE the man.

What the hell happened?
My productivity at work has dropped because I'm trying to find something to do, rather than nipping in here, posting, and then going back to work. :D
I was getting bored reading only Velonews and RBR! :o
Welcome back!

Did you have a good disaster recovery plan?

Man, I thought that had been tracking my internet usage at work and had put a block on this site for spending too much time here! ooooooohhhhhh shudder! I'm glad BF is back and running and I'm not in trouble!! WHEW!

Well, I know that the crash was a bad thing for all of you, and I certainly didn't enjoy it myself. But, it did do me some good. I am taking the ACT again this Saturday, and I had to reveiw 200+plus pages of math concepts this week. There is no way I could have done it if BFC was running.:D But I am happy it is back up.
I think it makes you appreciate this form of communication even more. For the past few days there must have been a few hundred lost souls floating aimlessly around the Web unable to make contact. Weird or what?
I saw ChrisL and Alister posting on another forum, but it makes you think does'nt it?

Kinda ;) I download a backup of the forums each week to my home computer. I keep a daily backup of the forums on the server itself. Luckly, we didnt loose anything this time around.
Joe, sorry if I sound prying, but couldn't you upload the backup onto the .com site whenever the.net site goes down?
Joe Gardner

the .com site is hosted on a different server, it will only support about 5 - 10 concurrent users, once it hits that, it takes down the server :(
I could put it on the .com server, but it would take me a few hours to upload the data (dial up connection), the data may be a week old. Once the .net site comes back up, i wouldnt beable to save the new .com data into the old .net database.
I may move to a new host with redundent servers and daily backups, but dont have the cashflow to do that yet.
I thought my firm was on to me.
I got a lot of work done in the last few days.
It's good to hear everyone's, umm, voices again.

Me too! And we're doing layoffs here. I guess that qualifies this as an addiction. :(

Ok, thats cool. I was just wondering.
Joe, netsol.com, a verisign extension, has .com domains running for 35 dollars a year. I don't know anymore details, but if you want I'll contact them. Just PM some questions to ask.
Phew, that was a close one Joe,
Glad we're back everyone :)

Great to see you back, Joe. I've just been on sporadically for a few weeks after my move and a change in ISP's, and I also thought it was something to do with my computer at work. Just got my new connection this morning and still couldn't connect so I was beginning to wonder(panic?).
Hi Joe,
Did the site go down again today?
Rich (still recovering from the last time!!!) :(
I thought that they were punishing me at work!

Yeah, I missed this place like anything. Does anyone know of any voluntary organisations that exist to help people recover from this addiction?
Your all a bunch of bikeoholics :D
cheers!

I was so relieved when I found I couldn't access the site at home as well as having problems at work :)

That was my thought exactly! My boss had noticed I waste to much time @ the BF. Then I realized "Hand on a minute. You are self-employed and not even that schizophrenic, how could that be?":p
With all these server crashes adn not being able to post, my dern posts per day(PPD) are down. Just when I was closing in on Pete...:D

I think it might take us all a while to get anywhere near Pete. I'm still on about 2.6 posts/day
