Are you taking glucosamine chondroitin for joint pain (arthritis)? If so, hows that working for you?

Thanks!

I've been taking it for several months now, and my knee joint pain is gone. I'm told you need to take the full recommended dose for a few months to really have an effect. I'm sure other things I've done (not stressing the knee and a better bike fit) have helped as well. But the GC is worth a try.

to be honest i started taking it and i cant tell a difference. i think flaxseed oil made my joints feel better than this stuff does. after the bottle runs out i will wait to get anew one and tell you how i feel

I'm almost through my first bottle (two months?). My knees certainly seem to offer less protest and are generally less 'creaky'. Even so, the jury is still out for me. Near as I can tell, it's great for some and useless for others.

I started taking it after suffering what I thought was another fibula stress fracture. X-rays showed there was no fracture, but the pain persisted nearly every time I tried to run.

After a couple of weeks on the GC, the pain went away and hasn't come back (the pain had been with me for 3 months prior to that).

YMMV, of course.

And, AFAIK, I don't have arthritis.

Used it for years and it works great for me, but have been told that for some it does nothing. So take it for a full month as perscribed and if you feel an improvement keep going. I found that after it takes effect I could cut the dose in half and still feel a benfit. Good luck!

I have been taking it for about 12-15 years. I had joint aches then and they haven't gotten worse but who knows whether it is due to the Glucosimine/Chondroitin. A big study a couple of years back didn't find much to support it. The reason I started taking it, however, was because it made a big difference in my aging Golden Retriever. I figured if it works for her it may for me. By the way, vets have been recommending it for years. If there is placebo effect in how it works on dogs it can only be our perception of their improvement - I don't think many of them would be fooled.

I had noticed some occasional knee/joint issues (not pain, more of a twinge and enhanced realization they were there) and sometimes they would "click" as I walked down stairs, especially after a long or hard ride. Started taking one tablet in the morning and didn't think much about it. About 2 months later, I realized I wasn't hearing the "clicks" any longer and my knees felt better. Hardly what I'd call a controlled study, although I doubt any placebo effects in this case. YMMV, especially as the brand I'm using (Whatever Costco was selling, and now, Trader Joe's) is unlikely to be what you or anyone else here buys.

Glucosamine Sulfate is the good stuff.

Glucosamine HCL is the useless stuff.

AFAIK atleast.

Anyways it helps me as long as I take it but the day I'm off it, no more relief.

My parents like the stuff that Schiff makes. My mom was on her way to needing surgery for her finger joints and now she's pain-free.

The same for me. The only difference is I used fish oil instead of Flax oil.

Been through a couple bottles of it, no huge diff that I have noticed. But I figured if I want to keep cycling most my life (Im 23) I better keep the joints in proper order now. Though I think I will drop my dose in half unless I am doing a big ride then ill increase accordingly.

i've got some from super nutrition that's working okay, but had a better one in the past with msm in it too.

i think some of my knee aches lately may have come from my not getting more fish oil too... among other things (tweaking bike fit).

I use the combo of Gluc / Chondroitin / MSM.. It seemed to help with my knees many years ago and I still take it to this day..
