Can we have a nice little discussion about quantum physics and the basic meaning of existance as we percieve it? Somebody break out the wine and Brie and I'll fetch the crackers. Start any time!;):D

I tried to read a book by Stephen Hawking, I didn't get past the first page.

I just watched a film yesterday called " What the Bleep? Down the Rabbit Hole". I still have a headache but I am trying to get my head around it. I don't want sausage I want a few bratworst...............

Wait till CERN gets that new collider on line and we will have lots of new stuff to digest. The pictures of that thing just amaze me. So what do you think will come out of their first collision??

I tried to explain the Schrodiger Cat thing to my mum... she was like 'it's clearly not both dead and alive! You just gotta open it and find out...'

you mean physicists or metaphysicians...

...or logicians: quantum superposition suspends the law of bivalence

My firm belief is that there is no true randomness, only apparent randomness in the form of chaotic (in the mathematical sense) behaviour. Calculable in theory, but never in practice due to irrational starting values.

I have that dvd. I like the bit about the research done by Dr. Masaru Emoto who had a theory that water can be effected by emotion (music, words, photographs, blessings, etc.) Some examples can be seen here: https://www.hado.net/watercrystals/index.php

My sister has the first book he put out. It was pretty fascinating stuff! Our thoughts affect the perception of reality and thus reality itself. Wild stuff!

Oh yes he does....they are just billion sided die...

Really does "quantum physics" and "the basic meaning of existance" really go together?

Quantum Physics and the basic meaning of existance exist together and are intertwined. Science and Philosophy combine to find the meanings of existance in my poor and humble opinion.:)

I guess my point is that none of it is proved correct? So it could really be peanut butter and jelly...I mean quantum physics is cool....and I am sure it explains a LOT but the basic meaning of existence? Maybe why we exist yes but the meaning? I don't see it....

I will say yes....if you posted this....(there is no echo here)

There is your perception that you posted and possibly there is mine that you responded. Whether one recieved ones own response or percieved a repsonse is rather in question! I am not trying to be perverse in the thought process but as you can see one can delve quite deeply down the rabbit hole! What is real and what is not? What is exiostance? What is conciousness? What is concious perception? Is your perception reality or reality a result of your perception?

I agree in an odd sort of my own opinion way....

Most folks get a bit put off and don't like to delve into the questions of existance and reality. Some folks freak when looking into a mirror and start the process of asking who and what are they looking at. Who am I? Why am I here? What is my purpose? Where am I going?

Simple seeming starting points for an infite journey? You were never born and you will never die. You always were and always will be. Everything that was, is, will be, etc...exists now or whatever now is..............

All these thoughts seem rather odd and disturbing but therin lies the wonder of the journey!:D

Actually there are a multitude of alternate realities and in some the cookies are indeed all gone and in others they are not. I believe they are using sporks right now so you are correct I believe in the fact that they are out of spoons!:D

By a pure definition of proof, no, none of it is proven. A scientific proof, unlike a mathematical proof, is impossible. You can only disprove.

Quantum mechanics has not been disproven. In fact, it's predictions have been properly observed in the real world so frequently that many consider the basics of it essentially proven. Of course, it's a broad field, and there are very many particulars not settled yet, such as whether there is a Higgs Boson.

Basic meaning of existance? I don't see that either. Perhaps basic principles describing existence, but not meaning. I'd personally address that question theologically...but not in Foo.
