Mountain Biking - Decide on these two hydro's for me...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hayes Stroker Trails
or
Track down a pair of the old XT 4 pot calipers and get a set of Saint Levers and goodrich hoses and fittings.
And don't go reccomending me Juicy's ProFail, I have a set right now and I could do without them just fine.

Hayes Stroker Trails are nice they came on my Kona. I find their a real pain to keep from rubbing. After a while though the pads don't return as fast as they should. The lever adjustment is nice and quick and convenient. They stop really good though and their not full on or full off like a lot of hydros. You can slowly pull them to a complete stop or stop real fast. Kinda like v-brakes but with a lot more power.

Sorry, I've nothing to contribute to your decision, but I was curious. What don't you like about the Juicy's?

Errr, Formula brakes.
But if I really had to pick one of the two, your XT sounds like a nice cobo/project. I'd opt for that.

No, hayes, whatever you do, For the best price go with LX hydros, I use them and they have more than enough power, the tire goes faster than you could ever need the brake to pull, but if you need to blow cash for some random reason, go with Hope disc brakes, they're the best.

Why would I throw on LX brakes on a bike that is all XT/XTR/Gravity Light? I also don't give a damn about price.

Could you explain....." the tire goes faster than you could ever need the brake to pull'.

Reports I've been hearing through my Hayes rep is their top DHers who have been running them love the modulation and are happy with them overall.

I had to read that twice to make sure there wasn't a company called Juicy that makes brakes called ProFail...
Since when did I start preaching Juicy's? The only time I would recomend Avid is during an Avid vs. Hayes or Avid vs. Shimano question. I'm itching for Magura's myself.
Did I recomend Juicy's to someone?

Update from my searches, it's looking like the Stroker Trails are going to be the brakeset.
It's almost the same money per brake for a complete Stroker Trail set up as it is for one single XT 4 pot caliper.

Who's the noob which thinks quality is all in the name, perhaps you should do some research on your own and find why one brake caliper is better than another. Maybe you should consider giving the pointlessly spent extra 300$ to some kid in Nigeria.
I also don't give a damn about price.
Then Hope should be the final answer.
XT 4 pots are brakes.

Maybe you should consider shutting up. I don't want $90 brakes on a $5,000 dollar bike, I selected the XT 4pots and Stroker Trails because they caught my interest not based on price.

It kinda is. Look at like Lexus versus Saturn cars. People here Lexus and thin high quality, you here Saturn you think not so high quality. Price does depend on quality by the way. XTR cranks are expensive b/c ALOT of testing and material researching had been done to fins what would work best and still be light, and Deore are just steel outboard bearing cranks.
I don't think Smashy is a noob either, but you on the other hand, to me you seem like you are just a smart*** who thinks he knows everything. You're even worse than Profail, Cheeto, and I.

Well then again, Smashy. Maybe he's right. ;) I think he may know more than you do.
Im a little out of the times with hardtails, all iv really looked at in the past year has been for building up my FS, but it weighs in at about 30lbs and is a pain to ride with my buddies who mostly do in between XC and All Mountain riding. So im looking to build up a hardtail that weighs under (or just about) 15lbs. So whats popular right now?
Requirements are, under $900, hardtail, Aluminum, want enough left over for something like XT/X9 componentry.
