Reflecting on the past month (I started cycling a month ago next Monday): I have gone from a cardiac at two miles to biking an average of ten miles a day, and fifty to a hundred on my weekends. I've quit smoking (because it interferes with cycling), and my diet and eating habits have changed drastically for the better. Hell, I look a *lot* better than I did when I was lifting weights five days a week; not as much muscle-bound as just...fit. My waist size has dropped by almost two inches, despite the fact that my appetite has almost doubled. Wow.

Cycling has made me a much happier, healthier person. :D

So what's *your* story? How has cycling affected you as a person?

I may end up writing an article on this, so be nice. :D

I started for real this earlier this year. If I new then what I know now, I wouldn't have a used '91 GF that doesn't have a fork.

I started riding when I "blew up my knee" playing rugby and crashing motorcycles. I used to run to stay in shape for Alpine Skiing, some would say the extreme variety, and had to switch to riding and was hooked. About a year or two after that, I bought a better bike and then I met a "racer" who took me under his wing and taught me some technique, we've been friends, riding and racing partners since.
My skiing and racing days are pretty much over, but I ride whenever I can.
Iv'e met some of the nicest people ever through riding. many of whom became my closest friends. I think (hope) ridng has made me a nicer person as well.

I concur with the results. Cycling on a regular basis is not only fun, but immensely rewarding. Rewarding beyond expectation, to say the least.

I still can't figure out what's keeping folk from it...

I actually started regular riding out of necessity. My parents split up when I was in my teens, and I was left in a family without a car. Where we were living at that time, I had to do the shopping on my bike. Before I knew it, I was riding further and started doing so by choice.

Then we moved to the Gold Coast, and I started riding the climbs in the hinterland. I was hooked!

The opposite really - I'm 16 stone, I don't cycle nearly enough as I should. It's been over a year since I exceeded 25 miles. I was 10stone as little as 6 years ago.

I started biking regularly when it became aparent that running was ruining my body.

I have always been a string bean of a guy bent on arobic fitness and nothing I've found can come close to what the bike can provide. Training, leisure, commuting, it's all there.

Matadon, yours is a true success story! Keep it up. We're all proud of you.

Campag, you must have a lot of leather in the closet that doesn't fit anymore! ;)
